Stihl should do a purge of some of their dealers. There are two around here that have lost my business as well as a few others. I've directed the others towards a great dealership about 10-15 miles further, but they decided to go to Home Depot and buy Husqvarna.
To be honest this is the first ebay sale to go bad on saw parts for me. I’ve fixed a lot of Stihl saws using eBay parts and never has one come back. I’ve done my own saws, some members saws and ordered parts for others here with no issues to report. This is apparently the risk eBay sales present. I’ve told the original seller I reported him for his practices. He is a major shady guy. It usually takes a few weeks tops to get parts off eBay but this joker took over a month and half to ship the first part order. He never said anything about a shipping delay and I had to stay on him to get them shipped. If it where my saw this time I wouldn’t be so annoyed but it isn’t my saw is another members saw and I’d like to finish it up and get it back to them. The more I think about it the more irritated that eBay seller makes me. As for the dealership I got ahold of Stihl again today and reported one of them to Stihl and they where all apologies but did say that his policies are not theirs however they can’t dictate to him how to run his buisness. Really gets under my skin
I have never encountered a dealer who refused to sell me parts. Any kind of dealer, either, be it automotive, tractor or small engine. You make money just the same. I'm sure there's a bunch of dealers out there who are of the opinion that, if the guy buying the parts screws up the repair, he's going to come back and ask for service work.
I have had this situation over the years, either do not want to sell to me or want list price, then they wonder why people shop online...........
My tractor dealer and stihl dealer one and same. Great guys good service. One of my stihl came from competitor before I moved here, still did warranty service on it. Complained a little, I was like new sales are through you, he took care of that one and got loyalty since.
Of course, and see how those aftermarket parts are working out for Pete? This one may not have been Stihl's call, but their parts/dealer network seems to work well for them.
Had a Stihl that I took to a dealer to repair as it was hard starting it wouldn't stay running. It was there for 4 weeks he calls says saw is ready I pick it up he starts the saw seems to run good he tells me that it just needed a tune up $100.00. I get the saw home it will not stay running start checking things out spark plug is the same one that was in the saw when I took it to the dealer replaced it the saw started and ran a little rough, adjusted carb a little running great now two years later. Wouldn't you think a new plug would be part of the tune up? Will not go back to that dealer.
I thought Stihl doesn't allow new OEM parts to be sold online (by dealers) and will put the smackdown on any caught doing so?
Stihl dealer agreements for most dealers do not allow shipping of whole goods or parts out of the dealer’s zip code. The majority of Amish dealers do not sign contracts but they mostly are not online and shipping anything. It does allow them to post signage with prices lower than msrp and authorized factory promotions though. Dealers are also forbidden contractually from selling parts saws. Some dealers do all of those things and others are very by the book. I have paper copies of dealer agreements from as far back as the early 70’s before there was an internet and they forbid shipping way back then. Of courae breaking the contrqct terms isnt criminal and rather than sueing a dealer they just change the discounts for non complying dealers in the same way they penalize a dealer who doesnt pay thier bill in time. Dealers can have some strange policies. I went to a Polaris dealer nearby by house for a drop in fuel line for the gas tank on my UTV. They wanted to sell me the whole kit. From the fuel pump to the tank. Several hoses, grommets, filters, caps, and fuel tank. So I ordered just the in tank hose from a Polaris Dealer in NY. The kicker is they shipped it to the same dealer I had gone to to start with. You should have seen the original dealer trying to explain why they couldn't just sell me the one part when another dealer could.
Pallet Pete Pete i know this is my saw. So quit worring stressing over it. It gets fixed when it gets fixed. Remember it is the one I found in the trash on the way to Backwoods Savage first gtg.
It’s gettimg done soon. I’m going to head over to AC and see his mountain of firewood and then pick up the fuel line.
