Hey all, new guy here just wanted to say hi and give a little info about my firewood life. I have been selling firewood for 21/22 years now. Started out with my brother just doing 10-15 cords a year with very limited equipment. About 12 years ago I went solo and upped my production and equipment. I now average about 125-130 cords a year with the help of some local teenagers that come and go. I still like to keep the equipment to just what I feel I need and nothing more. The list of equipment includes 2 chainsaws - Stihl MS260 and Echo 8000, 2 log splitters - a 22 ton Iron and Oak with a 4 way wedge, and very recently a TW6 with log lift and 6 way wedge, an f350 stakebody dump capable of 2 cord deliveries, and a John Deere 1070 with forks (this isn't mine, just the family farm tractor. I mess with firewood all year long but most of what I do gets done in the summer when I'm off from work.
Welcome, If you are doing the majority of the work in the Summer, how long are you seasoning wood before selling?
Welcome jrider, great group of people with plenty of information. Don't be shy about putting up pictures
Hey jrider , sounds like you've been here all along. You're gonna like it here, I guarantee it. Lots of nice folks here. Just remember we like pics, beer and spending your money on accoutrements to support your addiction, er, hoard I mean. Nice to meet you.
The wood, for the most part is already on the ground. It just gets cut and split during the summer. I windrow it all and it sits out in a field with full sun and wind. It generally is all sold by Thanksgiving (give or take) and I have a very good name in the firewood business around my parts.
3.5 year old machine but only had 23 hours on it This was in my yard. I was working on some old cherry logs I had there. Generally all wood is processed at my moms farm.
Welcome jrider. Nice operation. Glad to hear you're able to get some teens to help you. Help turn them into men with purpose and future chainsaw nuts! Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
Welcome! Do you own your own woodlots, or are you in the land clearing business, as well as firewood? Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
