Often as I read what kind of wood some people heat their home with, I realize I am RICH with a bounty of hedge, locust and oak within a mile or two of my house, more than I could burn in several lifetimes.

That got me to thinking about the fact that even though our household income would be laughable to most, I am Blessed beyond measure. I have a few very good saws, a rifle that will take the eye out of a squirrel at 35 yards and a 50 yard head shot is easy. A good solid truck to haul wood in, a sound house on a little piece of ground, and as good a woman as ever drew a breath of God's good air laying next to me at night.

I'm the same as anyone, it seems we all want MORE, but when I think about it I realize I'm Blessed beyond measure with what really matters.

    Thank you, God.

I think it was Daniel Boone that said " All a man needs is a good woman, a good rifle and a good horse"

I got 2 out of 3, no horse. I hope that's counts as I consider myself Rich also, except monetarily.

I love your post!!! We are sooooooo blessed (most of us)! I get so sick of people complaining about how stressful our lives are. We have it so much better than any other time in History. We sleep in warm, dry beds. Most of us can afford a/c to keep our homes cool in hot weather. Look at all the great food we can get at the grocery store. Our medical care we receive is mind boggling. (I sit here with a stent in my ureter :picard:). We walk around with small computers/phones that can give us all sorts of info. We drive the best cars that have ever been built. The list goes on.
I truly believe that if you can go through life being grateful and positive you will have a great life. I have people in my life who spend most of their time complaining and they are no fun to be around.
I too have an awesome wife, that is the icing on the cake. I can see if your not married to the right person where that could be really bad and you have my sympathy.

Excellent point. I often tell my kids that “the only thing complaining leads to is more complaining “. I myself am sometimes guilty of complaining about things I can’t control; such as what I perceive to be someone’s else’s “dumb” decisions. I’m trying to learn to let that stuff roll of my back more easily. But there is no doubt that we are blessed.

Oh boy Red Elm you really hit the nail on the head this time! Perhaps the best part is you gave glory to the right One!

We too have a bounty of firewood; much of it ready to burn but still more than enough to give heat for the rest of our lives. In addition, there is still enough woods to give the critters a home and food. Household income is a bit scant here too but we still have plenty. We have plenty of tools too and more than one rifle. A beautiful home on some beautiful land. And for sure a wonderful woman to share all this with and a God that keeps blessing us. Don't need much more than this.

I have a good woman, a Ford Bronco, that count as a horse? And a bunch of black rifle pieces. That's pretty much what Daniel Boone was talking about, right?
