Figured I'd cross one off the bucket list... I did the Polar Bear swim at a local lake this past Monday. -8 wind chill when we jumped in, not sure what the water temp was. They had to break 6-8 inches of ice off to have a pit. This is an annual thing some locals do to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Right around $5,000 raised this year, which I thought was really cool. This is the coldest year they've done it, most polar swims in the state were cancelled due to the cold. We were the first group to go, I'm in the middle in white/grey trunks. Lost my mind in the deep part and dove under for a second or two lol. Figured you fine folks would enjoy such shenanigans. *Video on second post.
Nice one, i reckon i wouldnt do it just for fun but for a but cause... 5 Grand is quite a number, well done! Yep!
Can't link the video here from FB for some reason... I took a screen shot of the location, it's worth the watch lol.
Wow...from the title of your post you scared me there for a minute...I thought you went out and got married! But all teasing aside, that is quite the bucket list to cross off. Good for you on all levels; contributing to a good charity, and for have the nads to go through with it, even if I suspect they might have been the size of tad poles when you scrambled onto the ice.
Congrats! Water temp was well above 32 or it would've been just a tad bit hard..... No matter, this is something that I'm glad I never tried intentionally. Happened once to me with below zero temps and while wearing snowshoes crossing a river....that was an eye opener!
NOPE! Back in August the wife and I took a short vacation, one of our stops was Rockport, MA. We stayed at this oceanfront motel, the water was so damm cold that the boys crawled up inside and refused to come back out. I couldn't get further than waist deep. I don't know how people can do those polar plunges!
