With the cold temps we've been having the past couple of weeks, I've been burning wood like it's my job! I loaded this cord into the garage exactly two weeks ago: And here's what's left: Because the stove's been running like this around the clock: Because it's cccooold out there!
You are not alone rangerbait!!! I have to run my stove hard even with locust just to keep the house in the 60's or low 70's when it gets in the teens or colder outside. Others do better but me and apparently you are not among them
Think of all the wood hoarding opportunity you're creating! In my case, I have 3,800 sq. ft. above grade that I'm trying to heat, with crappy builder-grade windows that have zero flashing and insulation between them and the framing, and my house sits adjacent to wide open farmland, so it's a total wind tunnel here. That combo really sucks down the BTUs! I actually resorted to turning the upstairs thermostat to 69 while we're dipping into the single digits overnight, but the main heat pump that serves the main floor and finished basement still hasn't been run this season.
Yep I would say you are going to use up some wood by the time spring gets here again. We have another cold snap coming in again here too.
Thanks! If you want to chug away on low for a couple of days, I guess they would be...if you want a nuclear reactor in your living room though, a 4.3 cubic foot firebox will chew the F through some wood!
OWB eats wood like candy in normal winters, calling for low here of 5 on New Years Day. So topped off lean to again and been tossing it in. I guess that’s what I cut it for!
I heat 5000 sf, 3500 or so above ground, and think I burn 15-20 cords between 10/1 and 4/30. It also does domestic. And we also keep house at 70. And I sort of burn whatever is free. I think if I had all oak, locust etc.. I could do with under 12-15.
Holy cow, that's a lot of wood. Imagine all of the extra tools I could justify with that kind of wood demand!
I'm on target to save $400+ in electricity for the month of December alone over what we used last year...plus, it's actually WARM in the house! Yep, still glad
Don't feel bad Rangerbait My firebox is double yours on my big indoor furnace. 2400sq of house & shop. When it's this cold, it just sucks up the wood. Doors open & close all day to let the heat out. I've smoked off over a cord for December so far. Better than paying someone else for heat, just gotta cut a bit more is all.
