Has anyone figured out a way to lessen the shutdown time before cleaning. It takes 5 hours to complete. I clean every two weeks and do a full with leaf blower monthly. It's a hobby so like to keep it running at it's best.
I initiate the shutdown when I know when the fire is out and no more smoke. Within one hour you should be fine. Touch the exhaust after one hour and you be the judge. Be careful it may be still hot
I pull the pot parts out and clean. You have to be in a maintenance pot removal mode to do this. Once you do operator initiated shutdown you are locked out from panel correct?
Mine is the old school/first generation design, and I think ivanhoe has the same model. I shut mine down, give it a half hour to cool, do my thing and I’m back up and running within an hour. DexterDay has one of the newer models. He may be able to chime in with specifics for the newer models.
I got a newer model now. I pretty sure you can jump into maintenance mode after initial start up but I can be wrong. I never tried it so it's on my to do list. I still have some learning to do with the newer model I'll look it up later tonight.
Yep, you can do maintenance mode and dump the pot, but I still prefer to let the unit run for a half hour as stated above. I also put the distribution blower into manual and leave it run a half hour to cool the outside of the furnace. After 30 minutes the fire is extinguished and the furnace is cool (No hot embers in my 50F by then). Then clean as usual. No need to wait 5 hrs when it's cold out.
I'll X2 Dex on the maintenance mode, it can be done on start up after you cool it down. Merry Christmas
