On the way home late yesterday afternoon about a mile or so to my NW I noticed a pile of Green Ash on the curb of opposite side of street I was on.Asplundh has the current contract for trimming around/underneath the powerlines in metro area.

When I went back there this morning, what small stuff they had was already gone, but there was almost 2/3rds of a p/u load that needed bucked to shorter pieces. A few 6"-8",all the rest was 12" to 18". 15 or more years ago I would've grunted & heaved to shove everything in the truck in 1 trip - but now I save my back & went back for about 1/3rd that remained on the curb after dumping the first bunch in backyard driveway.

2 weeks ago I finished bucking/splitting/stacking that large Silver Maple score my tree service contact dropped off 1 week prior - I was getting anxious to have something to do in my free time since its still too muddy to do very much out in parents woodland 1 hour west of me.

Have a few more snags that need dropped, didn't get to them before winter & the deep snow set in.No big deal, they'll be waiting when I get around to it once it finally dries out around here......

I noticed Asplundh continued working north on that same street when I was grabbing this morning. They were about 200 feet north where I was.

Hmmm....Looks like I'll have to check that area out again in a few days....May just follow them around if I can spare a few minutes every night after work.:axe:

Nice score on the load of ash! Asplundh has been dropping ash trees throughout the township I live in and that's how I scored my trailer load of ash last weekend.

Hope that your load is easier splitting than the stuff I snagged:axe:!

Asplundh was around here last fall and I wound up with a bunch of silver maple and a couple loads of wood chips.

In my experience Asplundh will drop out off at your house for a case of beer.

That's great, your tires didn't even get muddy. They might even save the good stuff for you. Congrats on the easy score.

Non-busy side street, asphalt over concrete.Wood roughly piled on grassy strip next to street.Only had to carry any of it 5- 6 foot maximum to truck. If I cant park within 20 feet or deal with any brush its not worth the time/hassle for me.

So many CL ads want you to haul away the brush or some worthless rotten logs, rake the yard, some even have the obligatory huge tree that towers over 3 houses & several powerlines they want removed for free (Free firewood, you cut down tree) + you have to have insurance/experienced crew etc.... I'm very selective on what ads I reply to.

Yeah there is a lot of really goofy people out there putting up CL ads, So you have to be very selective and let them know straight up, right away, what you will take and what you leave behind, but There is a lot of easy access good wood available.

75% of my wood is free Ash scrounge. The only problem is some of the rounds are different lengths. Makes the stacks a little uneven, but so what. Great find Thistle.

It all burns the same Mitch. Ash is great. When cutting I don't spend too much time trying to keep it all uniform in length. I try to guess the best I can and keep it between 18-24".

A large tree carved morel. With all this moisture this year it's going to be a good mushroom year. The distressed Ash tree is becoming the host for morels as opposed to dead Elm trees.:)

That's one thing I liked about my old smoke dragon, With a three foot long 8 cf firebox, No worries about uniform length.
With this 2.2 cf box uniform length is a big deal
