I'm certainly not trying to hijack either. Figured his ad might catch an eye, maybe mine or others' would too.
The homemade firewood processors page on Facebook has an interesting thread going about the county line 35 ton splitter. Apparently the wedge is a hollow welded assembly. The OP shows pictures of the wedge actually deformed in the back , crushed by the end of the ram piston, and cracking. The storewon't stand behind the splitter for a return, and county line is only offering a replacement wedge. The people commenting are telling him to get a local welder to fabricate a solid wedge. Buyer beware
There's that, but putting firewood up isn't about that. . As said before, you can split much faster than with any case or maul, and make the pieces exactly the size you want with hydraulics. That's a smoking deal, 800 for a good quality splitter? I'll have to look at the engine on that one. Regardless, you could always throw a chonda on it.
Personally I have four seasons on my Harbor freight predator splitter, still going strong, so far I only needed a new spark plug
I'm going on 5 years using Huskee 22 ton splitters. First my neighbor's, now my own. I replaced the valve on the neighbor's cause I THOUGHT it broke while I was using it. (Turned out another neighbor used it and returned it that way.) No big deal, I used it 3 years and it cost me $180. TSC had the valve in stock. Maybe by accident, maybe ordered and never picked up, IDK, but, in stock! Bought mine brand spanking used, no problems so far, and has split every thing I've thrown at it. I just don't see the need for a 35 ton...at twice the price! I do agree Speeco should replace (and redesign) the bent wedge in the picture above.
Upon further review, this splitter looks different than the other splitters I've seen from County Line. Looks cheaper? IDK
