Got a bunch of stuff down and bucked up today. The day started pretty crappy though got the truck stuck and it took 1.5 hours with a come along to get it back up in flat ground. I didn't even try to get off the ridge but it was so slick I slid off just a bit and kept going sideways. Tried to pull it out with a Ford and got it stuck. What a mess

Looks like a good day none the less. That slick ground can be tricky.

Pics are great. Fine looking wood. That slimy mud sure doesn't help does it? Have gotten my truck stuck more times than I want to remember.

I see you ran out of snow already.
I can see the woods, but can't do any cutting yet. Snow's probably close to 2' deep still, back there.

Looks like it was a nice day for getting some woodworking done. Our weather was nice in the morning but the skies quickly turned, temperatures dropped, and we received an inch or so of snow.

Spending time dealing with a stuck vehicle is frustrating, especially when you are trying to get something else done:mad: !

Anybody ever use tire chains? My wood hauler is a 2wd PU, and I put a LSD in it last year, but I still get stuck very easy. I've been thinking about a set of chains. I don't take it off road much to fetch wood, and I'v got a 4wd SUV if I gotta go deep and either drag it out or trailer it.

Have used chains a few times long ago. I remember that they work OK, but only if they're not a pain in the azz to put on and off. If you could find some that you drove on, laid out flat, and they "clipped" up easily… perfect. Seems I was always fighting with the ones I had.

We had chains on the tractor and still had it stuck! It was some greasy nasty crap out there yesterday for sure!
I plan on buying a set of tire chains with lugs on them for my Kubota. I want them even for summer time when skidding logs up steep hills.

I was pretty ticked cause I wasn't even trying to go over that hill. I was literally turning around on the flat and one rear tire went inches over the ridge line and it was all over from there the more I tried to get out the more it slid down the hill. I even tried to winch it straight up from where it was sitting and it wasn't happening. it still kept sliding along the ridge line. I had 30 yards to the left of the bumper and pull the front end around and then pull it straight up with the come along. It was the first time I wanted a winch on my truck!

Oh I almost forgot to mention that 357XP is bad mother of a saw
With that 16" bar it screams through the wood like nothing I have ever used before. It was so impressive my Dad showed up later on in the day and he ran it a bit and said if I find another one he wants it! I still can't believe just how fast that thing goes. I had the 16" bar buried to the tip and and it doesn't even slow down not one bit! I think I have found my favorite all around firewood saw! :D

Cert & Wood… from the pics you've both posted, you guys got some serious slopes to deal with! H*ll… we talk a lot about saws and trees falling on us as the major safety issues but, man, working on side hills with tractors, etc. can be just as full of excitement can't they? Do you winch stuff up or are the slopes not as steep as they look?

Those slopes are definitely as steep as they look and those aren't even the steepest slopes we have to deal with. I get jealous when i see guys who can cut all winter. We only have a couple of month opportunity to get it out of the woods on our property or it isn't happening. That's why I have been trying to get back in there and buck it so during the hot months I just have to get it out. I have talked about trying to set up a winch but it hasn't happened yet. It is definitely dangerous and you can roll a tractor in the blink of an eye.

Oh man… no rolling tractors please. I've had my eye on one of those chainsaw engine winches. Lots of brands I'll bet. Looks as tho you would use one a lot more than I would. There are times tho, even on flat ground, where I can't get to where I need to and a portable winch would sure be nice.

You prolly noticed I'm trying to ignore the "jealous in winter" thing…
