So fired up the stove tonight since it's getting down into the low 40s. Let it build up to temp and engaged the cat. Stove temps went up but the cat isn't glowing at all. The door latch wasn't completely seated so I tightened it down but cat still isn't glowing. Any ideas?

I read BKs website they say that the cat doesn't have to glow to be working but just confused as it was glowing before when I ran it.

What's the cat gauge reading? From what I've read it doesn't have to glow to be working.

You can always go look for smoke.

No worries..........it doesn't always glow like that..........My Chinook 30 would glow more in the beginning when I burned .........less later on after a couple weeks or so...........Doesn't affect performance at all..........I think its part of the break in process of the cat in the beginning.

    Pretty good indicator.

Mine still gets bright at higher temps. This time of year, dark is okay.

The other day I loaded up some twistys, got it up to temp, and started cutting it back. It was at the bottom of the active range when I went to bed, and I figured I would wake up to a stalled out, smoky mess. When I got up at 1 am to go to work, however, the house was 76°, and the cat was bright red with 450° on the stove top thermo. Not sure what went on, maybe the draft got a little stronger when the outside temp cooled off.

They are correct. For sure you can tell if you are monitoring the stove top temperature. If it goes up as usual, no worries.

No worries Swags, mine does the same thing. Completely normal. I've seen mine start glowing after being dark for a while, maybe something to do with the wood out gassing?
