Last year I hacked in a fan and also bypassed the blown rheostat and wired in a $5 rheostat vs. $100 high temp one on the stove.

The control box was UGLY! but it worked. As I keep remodeling I figured before I finished treating the walls I wpuld just put the box in the wall. Looks so much cleaner!

Here is the original you can see the box on the left and wires all over

Hardest part was getting new wire through the double sill plate had to drill down into it and then sideways downstairs. There was already wire to the stove so I hooked it all back up.

Looks good. I like your economics. I wish you could have the option, on when you want and off when it cools down...mine takes its sweet time to come on.

On the woodstove there is a three way rocker switch one way is off all the time one way is thermal switch and one way is on all the time so I have all the options although I usually just leave her on thermal switch

But yeah by wiring the Rio stat remote I am saving a ton of money because the rheostat that goes in the stove is like 120 bucks Probably because it’s all high temp rated blah blah blah well I just used a five dollar Lowe’s rheostat for this rig
