What you guys burning? We are cutting it close, if it gets too bad I think I will start with the uglies off the top of next year's pile.
Yesterday, the forecast for today was 25. It's 34 right now. I'm thinking this may be the light at the end of the tunnel. I just hope it's not a freight train coming at us........
High in the upper 30s for today, low near 30 tonight, sun shining brightly, and a meatloaf in the oven for a few hours, so it's a good day to play a little. Loaded 'er up for the night about an hour ago A bunch of big, long, white oak splits in there E/W, with a couple of strategically placed, paper dry ash splits for a boost.
Mixing in some dead standing stuff thats been being cut for a while . Yesterday ..some half dead Cherry and Tulip Poplar did the job just fine
Well, we ended up at 45° yesterday. Nice day. A couple more days like that, then a good freeze, and we'll have our skating rink back instead of a driveway.
Well we had quite the warmup, let the fire go out and relit last night at 10. The girls had a great time outside playing in the mud and driving the fourwheeler.
Only lighting the stove @ night now. Burning Ash & Mulberry. Was 57 º yesterday, 50's today, & tomorrow. 60's Monday & Tuesday
I'm not quite putting both feet in yet. Hanging tough with what I have left on the porch, maybe 2 weeks worth then off to the shoulder stuff. Which brings up today, supposed to be 45 here. I think I'll bring up a load of shoulder wood to the porch.
We still have some good sugar maple that we'll save for the colder nights, we started to bring in the last of the cherry we planned on burning this year. We still have a small amount of shoulder season wood (hemlock) that we stopped burning when it got so cold, so we'll save that for when we are done with the cherry.
We've been letting the stove idle down a lot and burning a lot of the over-sized rounds that it hasn't been feasible to burn during sub-zero temps. Got a big maple round in right now that I'm bring up to temp before it gets dampened when I heard to work.
OMG!!! That's incredible...Does it dry there? Not sure what your process is? How much can you fit there?
Those four racks are about a cord apiece, depending on split length. That's assuming I leave the one hole empty because it lines up with a basement window. I only built the racks last summer so I'm not certain how it will work out, but it seems to be doing pretty well. Not much sun, obviously, but the rows are spaced well, it's decently breezy and the deck keeps most of the rain off. My splitting area is off to the right; if the camera had been a bit higher you'd be able to see an elm crotch splitting block there.
