Changed my gasket on the nc30. Only passes the dollar bill test on one side towards the handle. Not sure what I did wrong. The handle when fully closed is in like a 5:25 position.

When I fully close the air intake it doesn't really affect the fire at all, even at low temperatures in the 250-300 range. Any advice on where I may have screwed up with the gasket or other places to look for issues.

Might have stretched the gasket when installing. My handle is in about the same spot when I close the door.

You can't stretch the gasket at all. If anything, I tend to bunch it up a little and then just lay it in the mud. Trim to length at the very end. The hinges and pins are very substantial on this stove so I doubt it is the stove's fault.

Can we assume that you got new gasket from Englander and didn't just get generic gasket? It's a weird gasket, very stiff.

Here are some pictures. Have had maybe 3 or 4 fires on this gasket.

    Wow!

Either you shut that stove down way too much or your wood is a tad damp?

Wood isn't damp been using 2 year css poplar. I shut it down early cause it will runaway. 700 plus temps with 4 splits and me needing to leave for work.

First year I ran it I felt like I had lots of control with using the damper. Then the second year it seemed less effective so I decided to replace the gasket for this year.

Nothing looks particularly bad. Did you use a deep bed of RTV, drop the gasket into the RTV, and then put the door on the stove and close? This sets the depth of the gasket to match the front of the door. You could dang near use a really old gasket if you put down a proper deep bed of rtv behind it do space it away from the door frame.

700 is not a problem but if the rod is pushed all the way in and you can't slow it down then I would share your concern. How small is the poplar split?

I am thinking that I should have done more of the hi temp silicon. Could there be issues if I went overboard with it other then the cleanup? I did close it tight for more then 24 hours.

Splits are fairly large to medium I would say.

I luckily ordered two gaskets so I am thinking of just redoing it this Thursday/Friday when it's back to 75 out.

Those splits don't look all that big to me.
The inside of the glass and other areas show me that the stove is burning fairly hot. The light brown powder is a giveaway.
I'd agree the gasket still isn't right. Hinge side bottom corner may have a little air leak, but I don't see any evidence on the front of the stove body anywhere else......hard to tell from here.
Yep. Be careful in the corners. Pretty easy to stretch it going around the curve.
First pic....is that black RTV on the gasket face?
