I've been browsing this sight for awhile but never introduced myself. Some of you may know me from Hearth.com as Tom123. I have a Napoleon 1402 insert in an oversized cape style house. I have been around wood burning on and off for most of my life and this will be my 5th year with the Napoleon. I enjoy scrounging wood and also have a buddy tree guy that supplies me. I currently have about 12 cord on the property. Mostly red/white oak but also black birch, red maple, ash, elm, and cherry. I burn around 3.5 cord a year and am able to season for 3 years. Here's some wood porn for you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Welcome! Good start with the wood pics. Sounds like you have your high btu wood lined up and are handling it properly. Looking forward to your contributions! Is that east Granby CT?
Welcome ThomH, nice to meet another New Englander, beautiful area you live in! Lucky you have a friend in the tree business, sounds like you're all set for winter. They tell me that's when things are hopping here!
Nice area. My old man lived in Windsor and Manchester before retiring to South Carolina (and Hilton Head Island! Gotta go see the vacation spot soon) and as I recall there is plenty of great hardwood available. I'm a little north of you in the redneck part of the Berkshires. No white oak to speak of, but we're all but tripping over sugar maple, so it's all good.
Hey Tom. Thought that might be you with the similar screen name from Hearth. It's funny that you just joined up here. I just joined a couple weeks ago myself. I'm down I-91, in Newington. But I think we have briefly had this conversation once before in terms of availability of wood. I wish I had had more time this summer because Asplundh came through town doing a lot of powerline trimming. They took down a lot of trees. Unfortunately I only had time for about 2 cords. Enjoy the site. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
