I think costs have gone down. crap don't break every 30 thousand miles, yiu don't tune up every 12 to 25k miles. labor rates are up but so is initiAL purchase price and wadges. have I run a cost analysis of this, no. but I don't think in real dollars it's much different

I have no idea. A reman tranny for my car would have set me back around $1500.00; which is close to the value of the car. At that cost, it does not make sense to repair the car; you take that money and add to it and try to find a decent replacement.

It might become the same for repairing saws; with all the specialised parts and needing a five thousand dollar diagnostic tool you simple cannot afford to repair (high labour costs plus expensive parts; Stihl wanted $90.00 for an OEM starter recoil for my saw) you just throw away the saw. Personally, throwing away cars every five years and throwing away saws every five years and throwing away refrigerators, washers, dryers, and on and on, every five years is not what we want. I know the manufacturers want us to believe we are living in an infinite resource world but we aren't. End of rant.

The baler is a 484.......fixed chamber. So.......that means it makes a soft core bale. That's ok with me........I might like the idea of baling hay that's a little too wet without worrying about mold.

Just bought a MS 261 C-M two weeks ago. Started great for 4 or 5 tanks of gas, first or second pull. Was cutting, I shut it off for 15 minutes. Picked up to start again, same starting procedure I had been doing, it hit once and died. Cranked and cranked, no start. My dad ran it by dealer Monday and of course it started first pull, which was great! The mechanic said with the electric carb that it doesn't need to be started every time in the first start-up position or choke . He said to just start it in the middle or run position because it would flood easy. I was always starting my old 026 in the choke position. Oh well, been working great after that advice

Old saws don't always need to be started on choke? Every saw I have from husky, stihl to chineese I start in the run position if warm?

My 661 won't start with the switch in either position. The plug is always dry so I don't believe flooding is an issue. It's back in the shop getting a new coil and intake boot. We'll see

Hang in there ,and don't get discouraged . The 661 is a great saw to run ,and definately worth owning .
Mother Stihl didn't get the great rep she has by messing over customers . They'll get your saw up to scratch .
