If so, what do you currently do, and what would you like to do?

I had one 5 1/2 years ago. I had a framing crew, now I'm a firefighter. Love it.

    Firefighter, good stuff.
I was one back in the day, had over 1K initial attacks on wildland fires, loved it.
    So who else?

I dream of a career change. I'm finding its going to cost too much, trying to do it without addition schooling. Currently an automotive technician.

What would I like to do? Pull a Lester Burnham. My long term goal is to become a beach bum. Seriously. I am so burned out on life right now. I want to go back to the days when I didn't have a care in the world.

Nothing set in stone. Have had some interviews for potential jobs that require labor/mechanical aptitude. Its seems once I get away from my craft the employers aren't willing to spend a lot to take a chance. I'm open for suggestions.

I work for a vocational school. They hire auto techs to teach. You do have to take some classes, but not a lot. They give credit for your work history.
How about being a parts manager?

I'm in the middle of a career change. I've been a podiatrist in solo private practice for the last 19 years. I just started working part time helping a small non profit Catholic home hospice provider expand into our area. I started working on this project three years ago, applied for and received a grant for it last summer, and we will be opening our doors in May. I'm closing down my practice this summer and going to work with them full time in July. They can't pay me what I make as a Podiatrist but this is pro life work to provide an alternative to the increasing prevalence of euthanasia in the end of life care field, so I'm willing to make the sacrifice for the opportunity to do this kind of work full time. I never thought I'd be giving up my practice and changing careers at age 48 but I'm really happy to get out of private practice (no way am I going to practice under this ObamaCare debacle.) I always wanted to do full time Catholic pro life work, just never thought it would be possible. God is good.

The tech school here requires a teaching degree now. I do have a resume out at the city garage for a parts clerk(decent pay), but I imagine there is probably hundreds of other applicants I'm competing against.

Where I work they advertise job openings and most of the time they have someone already lined up, but they have to go through the motions of interviewing people, it sucks.

Currently I'm tired. Tomorrow no doubt I'll be re-tired.

I've been with a metal finishing/distribution company for around 10 years. It's a bit of a drive. I have an awesome tree service opportunity in front of me and time to think on it. Foreman/working lead, good $, but just thinking about it for now.

Industrial engineer / IT guy working in supply chain and logistics right now. Moving trucks and boxes in cyberspace. Good job but it wears on you.

I would love to be a farmer. Its a hard life but rewarding. I plan on a career change in about 10 - 12 years...if the finances allow it. Get fun semi-retirement job for another 10-12 years and hang up my working spurs.

That happens almost all the time around here, especially with public sector or education jobs.

I've been doing what I'm doing for almost 15 years. I'll be 40 next year and I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I'm not sure if that is good or bad.

Thanks for the replies. I'm getting the urge to switch again, so I asked. I threw out a "feeler" to a person in Mtn. Ops. @ Keystone ski resort, the response was quite favorable. I'm following up tomorrow, see what the prospects are.
Don't get me wrong, I like where I work. Being the OM at a welding/fab. shop does have it's perks. But I've been with them since '05, and the owners have put the business up for sale (retiring to the Western Slope) so the future is anyone's guess at this point.

Spent 30 years in banking. Quit three years ago to farm full time and start my own finance business on the side. Best move I ever made. Life is too short to spend doing something you don't enjoy. Find something you would do for free and figure out a way to make a living doing it. Opportunities are out there - just may have to be creative and get out of your comfort zone.

I hate it because it's a waste of time. Give false hope to someone looking for work and wastes the companies time. I'm not sure why they even bother?

I'm currently a delivery driver for a major player in the foodservice biz. I've been doing it for six years now, and though I really enjoy it, it is a young man's job. I'll keep doing it as long as I can, but it is hard on the body. I make good money, but earn every penny. The schedule, though I have to work weekends, is pretty awesome. I work a day and a half, 2x per week.

My other two jobs in my adult life were with local family owned companies, so this the first large company I worked for. Definitely a big change for me, but it has its benefits. They treat us well, and I feel very secure in my position.

I'm working hard at becoming a multi-state lottery winner.
