This has needed to be done for too long and this is just a small about of what is thrown into piles. Thank you to the guys at our GTG last April for cutting and splitting all that wood. They even managed to get some stacked but left plenty for me to do and sadly, I've just started. Most of the time it seems the wood is wet but it is dry now. This stack is not done yet but a good start. It is 14' long. I'll probably go just a little bit higher but not too much and then make another row in front. I have one piece of steel that will cover 2 rows and is 14' long so might as well make one stack to use that covering. Notice too that the dray is sitting there with some logs on it. They are short so I may use those for stacking wood on. They are also pine. It is also sad to see all the autumn olive growing around there.
Nice pic A Great start ! I've noticed, Summer brings a lot of other chores that need done that puts firewood chores on the back shelf. Glad you were able to fit the stacking in
That looks like a good start to me as well Dennis! It's way to warm here for me to think about processing any wood. I just look at the pile every now and then. LOL Glad that it has finally dried out enough for you to get busy, and that you're feeling up to the task. Take care and stay cool!
Take it easy Dennis! Sure it needs stacked but we all know you aren't short on wood. If your humidity is anything like it is down here, drink plenty of water. I'm sweating ( and peeing) it out as fast as I can put it back in.
Hats off to you Dennis! If your weather was anything like mine, it was much to hot to put that kind of effort forward. I picked wild blackberries this morning and quickly decide that the weed whacking could wait till the sun starts setting. Seriously. Take it easy. We don't want to be reading an obit.
That's a nice stack and I'm sure it's always in the back of your mind to get it all stacked but in another month it should be a little cooler to get the rest of it stacked. It's still work but should seem as much work if it's a little cooler out. It's always nice to see it in a stack though instead of on the ground.
That olive is nasty, invasive stuff. I'm engaged in an all out war with it and honeysuckle bush. As much as I hate to I've begun chemical warfare aginst them. I cut then off at ground level and spray a 10ft. circle around their stump. Nothing else seems to work.
I also have the same, " I really should do a little on wood pile" feeling. I've got about a cord and a half of logs ranging from 4 to 8 feet long all tossed in the center area of my stacks burying my sawbucks about as tall as me. I'm going to have to cut my way in. . I also need to change the hyd. oil in my splitter. But it's just too darn hot and humid to do anything. At least you got something done Dennis, more than I can say. Just take it slow and easy. The same seasonal changes that cause a Buck to go into the rut, will cause us to go into the hoarding once again this fall as nature intended.
Good job Dennis! Yeah I have stuff to split and stack too, but it has to wait. The heat, and this job thing slows down my hoarding pace quite a bit.
Was still 92 in the shade 3 hrs ago...I went out about an hour ago...moved a couple pieces of wood (literally) and then covered 1 newly filled wood crate...said screw it, I'm tired, came back in. The heat just wore me out today. I was planning on picking up the shorts and uglies left on the driveway from splitting a little Cherry and Oak last night...meh, do it tomorrow...
I have been CSS'ing some wood my tree service friend dropped off last week. I work at it 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon and go through 3 bottles of water and several breaks each session. The heat and humidity is draining.
Glad I got mine done......I can handle a bit of stacking in the heat but no cutting or splitting for me. Careful up there my friend.
Best thing to do this time of year is get those places that are always wet and drag out the logs to dryer ground. I'm glad we're all on the same page. I have 3 dead ash, 1 red oak, and 3 maples on the ground that need CSS. Every day at work I have big plans to get after the wood when I get home but then I walk in the door and hit the AC.. ........ then it's all over
Man it was way to hot out today Dennis. Glad to see your out working on the pile though. Next time I head to the thumb I plan to stop by and say hi. Maybe help out for a few hours if ya need it.
With all of the humid weather we have had the past few weeks, a lot of the moisture came out of the skies in the past 12 hours. I dumped about 5 and a half inches of water out of my rain gauge. Another tree came down at the edge of my yard. The Mississippi river at La Crosse, WI rose by over 2 feet in 12 hours. We are getting ready to take 3 of our grandkids to Wisconsin Dells today so no time to take pics. I will do a fuller assesment of damage when we get back home again. At least lights are on and the house is still standing. We need some dry days.
