I have my splitter set up horizontal and I stand side ways when splitting. I do not wear anything special when splitting. It is all about technique and consistency when splitting for me.

The only thing I did one time was to catch my little finger between the butt plate of the splitter and the end of a log. Believe me it only took one time for me to learn that lesson.

No it did not split but it did take awhile for it to heal up. That is what I get for trying to do two things at once.

A Fiskars X-27 would solve this problem.

Actually no considering that when I split about half of this by hand my arm actually falls numb for most of the night. Becomes extremely uncomfortable, and advil is useless. I split a lot of
My wood by hand. But I don't think having a Fiskars has anything to do with it.

I split a lot of wood each year and with a fragile spine and minor shoulder issues I dont get to far into splitting by hand like I used to when I was a younger man. Really enjoy swinging my fiskars but its intermittent splitting.

I liked to split for hours a few months ago, that birch. Then I started not feeling my arm at night. Dullest pain ever. Not something I could shake off easily. So the splitter has indeed become a welcome deal and now this load of BL may help pay for that and my wood stove installation provided I let it season. The standing dead logs ive been registering 14- 21 percent mc

Methinks there are many of us who used to enjoy splitting by hand but have graduated to hydraulics.

Yeah for sure. When I was in my 20s I would split a cord of wood to relax and unwind after a day of work.
