Well.......about a 1/4 mile from the other big oak I worked up, another monster red oak was dropped by the tree service. I've been to the property owners house multiple times, leaving notes. He owns over 100 acres, is a doctor and rarely visits the property - so never heard a word. Town officer stopped by my house last week and said if I wanted the wood, I should get on it - tree was too close to the road and the tree service was going to haul it away soon before snow and plowing was necessary. I said I didn't have permission and he said to keep trying......still no luck. So....two days ago, while I was working up the maple I just posted about, the tree service drove by - they turned around and came to talk to me. They said the same thing - go get that oak because it is gone in the morning. Again, I said I had no permission. I then asked nicely - any chance they'd drop it at my house close by? He took my name and number. I also nailed a nice note on the tree with my contact info. Well......phone call yesterday morning at 7am - they are loaded and on their way to my house! The main trunk is 40" - unfortunately hollow but plenty of solid wood - the rest is huge as well and solid. A lot of wood in this load - wish I could get the saws out today, but big snowstorm starting (over 20" expected today). But....the demolition will begin soon! With this score and all the others this winter, I've replaced well over what I'll burn this season - feels good! Cheers!
Measures 40" at large end of the butt - phew! Even the larger limb and upper trunk sections are over 24" - was a massive tree - and smart to take down - main trunk was completed rotted and hollow - except for about 6-8 inches of solid edge wood. Cheers!
Great score and the wood came to you! The firewood gods are looking after you, probably because you've been a good little hoarder. :stacke::stacke::stacke: I'll make a toast to that!
Maybe you should come here for a visit then people might be dumping wood on us? Sweet firewood load there.
Whenever a scrounge ends up getting wood delivered with a dump truck and crane I would say it was a good day.
Perhaps - but the year is young! Some real good scores posted recently as well - we should have a 2017 contest for largest stacked amount of wood from a single scrounge! Cheers!
