Good point. I could make them out of plywood too with a 1x1 frame

Mining belt or large truck mud flaps are quick and easy if you have access to any, too.

Wipe it with vinegar, then prime and paint. Pretty simple, really.

Well I ended up finding the galvanized metal ones at TSC and will need to figure out mounting as they are 32" and I have metal rails that are 31 1/4 on center so that might work. Thanks all. This trailer has been quite s project already.

A mixture of one part muriatic acid and two parts water brushed or sprayed on will rough up that galvanized enough to take paint.

I would think a 33% solution of HCl would do a job on the metal too.

Maybe. Muriatic acid as commonly sold to the public is a already a 5% solution if memory serves correct.
As cgraham1 mentioned vinegar is a common acid to use. I did not know that myself. Cheaper, safer and more future uses than Muriatic.
All I know is I had a bunch of galvanized hardware and tow chains that needed paint for decorative purposes. Seeing as I had Muriatic around the house I went that route. Worked great. Didn't remove the galvanization just roughed it up.

I learned the vinegar trick from my neighbor, who is a retired house painter. My downspouts are galvanized and it worked great.
