windstorm blowdown. Roasted it, split like butter! My son loved it too!

Ps still living the isocore maul. Definitely the most effective hand splitting tool so far. Haven't tried any of the way high end ones yet though...

Yeah looks red but definitely maple. Was standing dead but not long enough to go punky! Perfect stuff.

Ya need a big tire to make your splitting easier.

I messed around with a tire about 2 years ago, and didn't see any improvement in splitting results, but that isocore really does shoot the pieces all over the place so maybe it's worth revisiting. What size do you prefer? And do you load it up with multiple pieces so it's "tight" in there before you go to town?

I've been using an 20" for 1 to 3 pieces of the larger rounds and a 16" for the smaller stuff. I can get up to 8 pieces of small wood in the 16". I'd use a larger tire for the big stuff but I just haven't taken the time to look for one.

Using the tire keeps keeps the X-27 out of the dirt and saves me a lot of time and "bend overs'. And at 63 I ain't never real sure how many 'bend overs' I got left in me!

I'd like to get one of those fancy Fiskers but no one has them around here. Maybe I'll try again online.

    15 cord split and stacked.

Cool, I'll keep my eyes open for a tire! A pickaroon with a 36" handle helps a ton with "bend overs" you'll never have to bend over again!

Pretty soon I'll task my son with setting up all the splits, that will be his job as he is slowly introduced to the lifestyle! How young is too young for a first hatchet? :)

Got my first one in 1959, a Craftsman, at age 6. Still have it too.

I really enjoyed that video! Your son's face was priceless the whole time, and clapping UNTIL that one round didn't quite split- he held his arms wide own, waiting, anticipation that rogue split get ripped in two! Dad saved the day!
