A while back there was interest in me posting a picture of my slot car track so hope this works, I have a long way to go but it's up and running.
Awesome! We have the same icing buckets here... And I see that's where my Kameleon tape measure went....
Wanna go up against my GT500? There was a slot car club (for lack of a better word) in my hometown; Williamsport for you local folks. It had several tracks with the largest being around 20' long and 8' wide. The corners were nicely banked for maximum possible speed but you could still flip off the track if you hit that bend too hard. You could rent a car if you didn't have one of your own or if you wanted to try something different. My dad, brother and I each had our own car. Dad's was a Formula 1 and my brother's was a Porsche. The car pictured above hasn't had any juice running through that little electric motor for around 45 years. Don't even know if it still works. Fun stuff! Thanks for the memories. Eric VW I thought I double posted so I took one down. Turns out I was wrong and deleted the only one there was.
Did a little digging tonight on YouTube and found this. The track we ran on was similar. FF to 0:50 for the start of the race. ETA: I also discovered that my car is a GT40 not a GT500
Loved the GT 40 and always been one of my favorite cars, had one as a kid and have a couple of newer ones now. When all the kids that had slot cars back in the 60's got older they had money to spend so slot cars had a comeback for the last 20 years or so but sadly many of us fans are dying off and the hobby is on the decline again. Here is an interesting fact- in 1965 there were more slot car tracks then bowling alleys in the U.S.
UncleJoe, I have seen that video before and the cars are so fast it looks fake but the people are moving at normal speed so I guess they are really that fast. Too fast for these old eyes!
You have keen observation skills, a good reason to make sure there is nothing incriminating in the photo.
There is a small town about 25-30 minutes away from me that has nice set up. You can bring your own cars or rent theirs I believe. Totally forgot about this place. Ther3s a slot car track about 10 mins away in Hyde Park ny. They have a pretty cool setup. I was only in there 1x though, whilst waiting for chinese food from next door.
