Soooo, my kegerator has sat unplugged, yet tapped and the co2 tank charged and hooked up since the summer. It must have been sealed off good because there's no mold smell and only a stale beer smell when I took the tap off and disconnected the hoses. Think flushing with diluted bleach will do the trick and I'm good to go?
Nooooooooo. Get yourself a cleaning kit, if you don't already have one, and clean and scrub everything. Beer is too precious a commodity to mess with. Oh, and your health is important too. I clean my setup every other 1/2 barrel and that works out to around.......... sadly once every 30 to 40 days. That damm golden goodness keeps calling to me.
Get something like the second one on this page.... Kegerator Cleaning Kit Supplies & Beer Line Cleaners The pump makes it a lot easier.
There's a home brew supply place right next to Keegan Ales, so hopefully I can get a cleaning kit and a nice 1/8th keg
I bought a roll of extra line for pretty cheap and change the line every few kegs I take the tap handle all apart and clean then boil before putting back together the beer tastes better and less foam with everything clean
Just saw this... great info... I just bought one this Christmas. Haven't had time to get any beer made. But it won't be too much longer hopefully...
