I'm no expert at ID but might be able to tell with leaves or a closeup of a split. I've had a lot of various maple in the last couple years.

It probably isn't growing in the woods, but that bark looks a lot like a Norway Maple yard tree I snagged a couple years back.

Definitely need a couple more pictures. Lower trunk looks like hard maple, upper not so much. Picture with snow, not much help

Doesn't look like maple to me. Get a picture of end grain and the inside of a fresh split.

The standing tree looks a lot like a middle aged red maple to me..

The one laying down kinda looks like pignut hickory. Are you sure they're both the same tree?

IMG_0025.JPG IMG_0026.JPG It is from the same tree, it is really tough to cut, splits ok, and is really heavy. I should get a lot of loads out of this in the next few weeks!

I agree that it is Oak. Splits easy, stacks well, takes a long time to season, great heat when it is dry.
