exactly.....and if its quieter, all good, everyone's happy. If not, then the OP may have had unrealistic expectations of how quiet they are. They always sound quieter in a noisy store, don't they? But when you get them home........

Ok. Happy New Year. I've narrowed it down. I just ran out of pellets and looked in the burnpot and saw the auger spinning obviously looking for some pellets. The sound I am hearing is in direct relation to the spinning of the auger. I tried to audio/video it but can't hear it. It's just a vibration rumble the exact same time the auger spins. Once it stops spinning, so does the rumble. Almost like I can feel it in the hearth pad. Thoughts?

I would worry more when you don't hear the humming. I know I do.

I think someone previously mentioned if it wasn't quite level it could have that affect - take a look at CleanFire's post on page 1.

If you have a corner not touching with confidence, or perhaps even a tile on the hearth is loose?

Without hearing it in person its hard to tell, especially if you cant pick it up on a recording.

Not saying it isnt abnormal but a P68 isnt exactly quiet-that just is not is forte. Is this stove in a living area? If you want quiet, the XXV might have been another option but is wont throw the same heat-although its much prettier too :)

One thing to try is to make sure there isnt ant carbon buildup at the burnpot end of the auger tube. That generally will give a high pitch whine more than a vibration though.

As I sit here and listen to my stove run, your description sounds like normal operation to me.

His is a brand new stove, so I doubt it is carbon build up. And, he changed out a P43 because there wasn't enough heat, so guessing the XXV wouldn't be enough.

So if coming from a P43 OP is familiar with the P series. I cant imagine the noise should be all that much different but if it doesn't make enough noise to be heard on a recording I have to wonder if it is in fact normal.

My P68 is in the basement and I can sometimes hear the auger drive from the living room on the first floor if everything is quiet in the house. I can definitely hear it when a pellet binds in the auger tube once in a while and is crunched and driven out

G - having both stoves, I can tell you there is definitely a noise difference between the two. When the auger motor is active on the P43, it is nearly silent; we only hear the tinkle of the pellets dropping into the auger chute. With the P68, like you said - when the auger motor is active, you can hear it the whole time, especially if there is no other distraction noise going on.

I'm not sure how long he had the P43 - he was complaining about flame height being lower than normal, but it was a new stove, so am unsure of his experience with stoves.

Since the P61a is in the basement, I've never really heard much but the pellets dropping and the blower. If I'm down there, I'm busy (with either laundry or power tools) so don't pay attention - it's all background noise to me. But, after reading this, and reading a few chapters of a Monster Hunter book, I thought I would see if the same were true between my stoves. Happily, both stoves were running so I could compare easily.

Yep, the P61a has a hum to it when the auger motor is active. The P43, not so much. There is a definite difference that one would notice if they were used to just the noises a P43 makes. Since I had the P61a first, and it is away from the main floor, I just never noticed.

So it's not just me. You guys are the best. My significant other thinks I am a nut focusing on the stove all day. Just can't help it and now I've met some good folks along the way. I love looking at my fire.

I know but I have a scientific mind. I need to analyze stuff. Not a good trait. Like with all things equal, why does my stove thermometer max out at 350 at times and then 400 at another?

I can be the same way....just move on and enjoy-its better for your psyche. The older you get, the less it matters. Trust me, I know
