Our youngest daughter and husband were living with us until they saved enough for a house. They closed on the house three weeks ago. I can't believe I haven't had to repair anything yet. So quiet in our house and my wife brings me a mimosa and coffee.
It definitely takes awhile to get used to the "empty nest". Fun part is when everyone comes back and there is noise and confusion for a couple of days and then everyone leaves and you look at each other and say "phew", how did we do it before?
Oh man... right now I'm not looking forward to the empty nest. I have a great relationship with my 16yr old son. We work on saws together and firewood together. The thought of him leaving isn't a positive one. My daughter turns 14 tomorrow. We have a little while yet, not hurrying anything.
I told both all the kids to move far enough away that they won't get any surprise visits...you know...the un-announced ones-"Oh, we were in town and thought we'd stop by" type of visit? Now the closest one lives 4 hrs (worth of speeding) away; the next one is a troll-about 10 hours away and the last one on the other side of the continental divide! I don't think I have ever come close to getting over the empty nest.
I only have 13more years and I can't wait till the empty nest one gone 3to go I love them but somedays well any how the count down is on
