It's a late start to summer here in south eastern Australia and I have not used this beast for a few months.

Last weekend my partner lit a fire in it and it would not draw, I went out to see what she was doing to find smoke poring out around the door and very little coming out the top of the flue.

I said sorry babe no fire today I will have to climb up on the roof and clean the flue.

Well today when I got home from work I climbed up on the roof of the back porch with a sheet of plywood, step ladder and flue cleaning brush, set up the ladder on the plywood and climbed up and removed the cap and found this birds nest in the top of the flue.

I thought well there's ya problem!
The flue did not need to be swept but as I was already up there with the brush I did that as well.

Well I guess you know what you will be doing when you get ready to burn every year now. Looks like it was stuffed pretty tight.

I find that birds are quite handy, cleaning out my chimney. I have a through the wall chimney and in the summer, I leave the bottom clean out door off and the little buggers drop right through. Keeps the flue nice and clean.

No but I am considering doing so now.
I'm just glad it did not catch on fire!
