This was my second trial, using super seasoned pine logs. 2 inch top hole, 1 inch air hole, plus sign type vertical cut, drop in lightning nugget fire starter, add a little splitter type scraps to taste, Swedish Torch. Best height I found is about bar oil jug size
Just about 2958 more and we can all have one for Christmas.....you don't have much time left considering packing and shipping but we know how quickly you fill that trailer with a load so you are up to it.
LOL, took me an hour to make 6! Note to self, when using 2 inch hole bit 12 inches inside a log, be sure you are bracing the log very tight, or else you have a lathe
If tried a couple without the vent holes, but they were harder to get going. BUt I was also using what I thought was very seasoned maple. So I'm going to stick with pine for now and the vent holes. I got about 90 minutes of nice fire from the pine one pictured with a pretty small log I now shoot for 12 inch diameter or so. JUst something to goof off with, and when I screw up, OWB doesn't mind
I have a bunch of standing dead maple rounds I saved to make some of these. Did you use a forstner bit?
I still have yet to try this. Sure looks like fun but it's the wrong time of the year for me to think about campfires. My brain is urging me to make these, then add a secondary fuel source to add to them. It's probably a good thing it's not campfire season. What's the record for Swedish candle flame height?
For side vent holes I uses a regular style bit, 1 x 12 inch. For top hole I used a 2 inch forstner bit, but had to add an extension to it so I could get down 10-12 inches into log. At that depth with forstner, I had to go about 4 inches at a time, then pull it and all shavings out. Only takes a second, but found that if I didn't remove shavings about the 9 inch mark they would start to compress and bind. I used a 1/2 inch chuck, 9 amp dewalt two handle drill. Not sure it would be possible to hang on without two handles. I'm not sure I have it perfected yet, may mess around with hole dimensions some more, but works pretty good, and you can operate just like a camp stove by adding small branches etc once going. Very, very hot flame. Made a couple "deluxe" models where I took an 18 inch pine stump type piece and basically cut it into a cube 12 x 12. Will see how they go also. I do think I will hang onto my day job however.
