We homeschool so my kids never got "snow days." My oldest two are in college now, but my youngest son is a junior in high school. He gets to shovel snow for phys ed.

However for the past nine years I've closed my Podiatry office whenever the local school district closed for winter weather. It was just easier because all my elderly patients never came out when school was canceled anyhow. We always made it a point to go out for breakfast or lunch or a movie on snow days so my kids still have fond memories of them.

I'm right above the yellow area just east of Latrobe. They were calling for this to hit with considerably more snow and less ice north of us. We're already seeing a changeover from heavy snow to sleet and freezing rain here in Johnstown. I can hear the sleet hitting my windows.

    Ready for power outages ?
Several hours of it to be in PA yet.
Add a few splits, get some rest, you may be busy tomorrow after this one passes.

This storm reaches form Alabama to Michigan & is moving north east pretty fast on the satellite.

I'm not worried about power outages here. We could survive just fine without electricity for quite a while.

On the other hand, my parents live 45 miles east of here and my dad is on oxygen 24/7. He has a portable rechargeable battery powered oxygen concentrator with a spare battery that is good for 8-10 hours but any power outage beyond that is trouble. I made sure my nephew got their generator set up for them today and filled up with gas and he put some firewood on their porch for the fireplace. Better than nothing. If we get half inch of ice I don't think I can get over there to help them.

Phone lines &/or cell phones should be up.
They have helicopters & such if needed. 4 wheel drive vehicle with chains.
Storm should be thru in 8 hours.
    Generator a good deal.
When prepared, relaxing & enjoying the waether is a lot easier. :)

    Storm finally made it here.
    Snowing fairly hard.
    Supposed to change to rain.
Fine with me, I want to cut and split some logs into more firewood this weekend.

I got the snowblower running after sitting for two years yesterday afternoon - almost a guarantee for rain.

Yup, started here now too. Saying we're gonna get 8"-10". We don't need to get out today, so we can just enjoy the show…

Never measured to see what we got, but just came in from clearing off my drive and my neighbors. Guess we had some freezing rain last night as well, Richland County was under a level 2 earlier this morning.

News this AM says lots of power out & schools closed, flights canceled, businesses shut down.

Betting those here have a nice warm & toasty house :)

I am sitting in a hotel room in NW Ohio. I drove here, made one delivery, and said "F$&@ it". First time ever. And then, several counties in the area have declared snow emergencies that make it illegal for me to be on the road. Should've never left the yard, but I guess that's why I'm not in charge

I have total confidence in my driving abilities, and somewhat enjoy driving in crap, at least in a truck. It's all the other a-holes on the road that scare me.

No need to sweat the stuff that's not in your control.
Relax, hopefully on the companies dime.

Bureaucrats are more worried about being 2nd guessed than anything else.

Like you said, the people out there on the roads in these conditions scare me.

Hopefully you are paid by the hour :) :)

Unfortunately, I am not paid by the hour. Last time something almost like this happened though, they came thru, but I'm not holding my breath.

Company does pay for hotels, and I'm free to stay anywhere that takes 'the card'. I'm pretty picky, and have a good list of nice places. I'd rather be home.

Tomorrow is another day. I'll be on time at least, just a day late

    Good attitude.
You need to carry a chain saw in the truck,
I hear on the news, some trees down due to ice :) :axe:

All snow here. I ran into a little freezing drizzle around Ann Arbor this morning. I had the heat on the floor and a window cracked so the snow didn't stick to the windshield, but it turned to ice.

Nineteen degrees and rain is not a good thing.

Probably prudent to be where you are.
Safe to be off the roads,
I'm sure there will be multi vehicle pile ups

I think it's over. Actually a pretty uneventful morning. Two jackknifed super truckers and one car in the ditch. Not a lot of traffic at 3am.

Radar show the moisture is over the New England area now.
Next storm might fizzle out, can only hope it does.

Winter is back here, no snow though , just cold & wind

That's about three hours northwest of us. I bet they get hammered up there with lake effect snow that close to Lake Erie. Here in Johnstown we do get lake effect snow too but not like Erie or upstate NY.
