So we have had an active hurricane season this year. Where I live we have been fortunate but the excess rain and wind has brought trees down that probably would not have stood much longer. My neighbor had a Water Hickory tree go down :woodsign:!!!!! Of course being the good neighbor I am I offered to cut it up, drag stuff to their burn pile and generally do what I can to help them :D. Obligatory pictures:

    All hickory is hard wood.

So, did you get to keep the firewood?

    Looks like a big one!

I have a couple pickup loads of shagbark hickory waiting for me down in the land of cheese! Just a little too far, you know?
    That truck gets thirsty...

Yes! They don't burn but they wanted some cookies and few select pieces mostly for crafts etc.

I have yet to split Water Hickory but its real heavy stuff. Pretty stoked cause the last couple of weeks Ive able to add some red oak and now this. Up until then I have been stacking mostly Southern Hackberry and some Sweet Gum (which I don't care much for).

    It's worth it though.

I doubt you'll find any better burning wood than shag.

I haven't pulled up the map and determined how far a trip it is for you. However - don't overthink it. Its superior wood with bonus syrup - fill up the truck and go get it.

I really like having a selection of different firewood types in my stacks.

How long have you been burning?

I meant that there is a couple loads of hickory in Wisconsin...(the land of cheese-great cheese, too)

The trip would be a bit over 4 hours one way for this old un-citified yooper!

You could buy some good beer that you can't buy in yooperland though. Cheese too.

Yooperdave - its your decision - we can't make it for you. But just to review. 4 Hour drive for superior wood, homemade syrup, world renowned cheese, beer. Now I can honestly tell I have driven 4 hours for less...

It just that I have so many hardwoods here.

    I haven't had a beer in years.

I have all the homemade syrup (maple) I can handle here.

I buy imported cheese here also. (imported from Wisconsin!)

The wood will be waiting for me whenever I get down there with my truck for a visit.

Sounds like a good decision. Just piling on.
