    And neither does 90% of us! Glad your OK Kimberly! :eek::) Ironpony said it the best, Cabling and wire will kill "FAST", when that parts/breaks, it's "BAD JUJU"! If your ever in that situation again, think of recoil, if it parts, it's going to go in 180* direction of the strain not nessesarily the direction your pulling either because it depends on which end breaks or what gives out.

    So if your off to one side a good bit, you "may" be in the clear zone. Glad your OK!

    Yes, it got me to thinking that I need to make a list of contacts for my family to contact and let know that I am no longer around. Most of my friends are on the net and wouldn't know. My clients would need to know so they can make arrangements and friends need to know. I will add FHC to the list.

    I wish it was that easy. A company that makes available china and glassware advertised for a position to take photos of glassware and convert them to line art. It is fairly easy in many of the graphics programme and many will let you create a "batch" programme to apply it to batches of files. I replied to the advert with a sample of a photo to line art. Waited for a reply but got none and saw the same advert a couple of weeks later, sent in my resume again along with a new sample. I displayed that I could do the job, evidently they were not getting anyone or they would not keep paying to run the advert.

    I applied for another job at the same company. It was for a web developer and I got an interview. As we discussed the job I asked about a particular web API or something, can not remember now. My interviewer; which would be my new boss, had no clue to what I was talking about. I knew at that moment that I could kiss that job goodbye; he would be afraid that I would take his job; been there before.

    After awhile you get discourage and tend to give up. I know I should start looking again but I am still discouraged.

    That sounds painful; best wishes for a speedy recovery.

    Actually, I am going to reconsider doing something like that in the future. I was using the chain's hook, not a knot. I had the chain looped around the tree and then the hook on a link (not on the tip of the hook but the whole link) The tree had curved and it kicked a lot more than I thought it would. I don't need to get hurt; heating with firewood needs to be an enjoyable event, not miserable.

    That surprised me as well. I had to skid it down the hill a couple of meters/yards before it fell. I am nervous about using the tractor; 8Ns have a narrow wheelbase. I know to pull below the axle and know that most tractor roll-overs are from pulling above the axle. I am trying to get a ROPS for the 8N. I found a place in Elizabethtown Pa that has two; I contacted Fasternal and they quoted $150.00 for the shipping. The guy wanted $300.00 for the ROPS. I am hoping I can get the guy to lower the price; they will most likely end up as scrap and scrap metal is like 30 cents a pound now.

    Glad it was just a scare Kimberly . Reading this thread makes me glad I am a "small time" hoarder. There is enough trouble I can get into cutting already downed trees ... I surely don't need "more rope" in the form of chains/tractors and tough trees to take down etc.

    I have contacted a tree service to take down some dead elm that are close to the house. There is no way I would even think about trying to drop them. I compare the cost of hiring them and the amount of money I do NOT spend on heating oil during a heating season. It comes down to hiring a local crew and keep the money in the local economy or spend the same amout and have it go to some big oil company. I get to keep the wood that is being dropped as well. One has to know their limitations dealing with firewood and act accordingly. Helps keep me safe.

    If you can do the math you already know the answer in more detail than"It could kill you". Just figure deceleration along a path of say an inch and how much force would it take? Any more than an inch and you are far more flexible than most of us.
    Remember F=ma and KE= 1/2 mv2. I doubt you really want the answer. Just be glad you are around to do the math.

    I got the tree that nearly killed me (well, it threw a logging chain at me) bucked and split. Stack is around 3.5 feet high for an idea. Couple of locust rounds in there as well. Now to get it stacked.

    I will add the red oak that I hauled out of the woods and split to that stack as well.

    I would assume that since Hades is a place of torment, and contains flames, you mean "Almost as hot as Hades....."
    Just keeping it literal. :whistle::picard:
    Otherwise- yes, it's really hot here too.

    So much for the proverb "revenge is a dish best served cold". You get yours hot now and when that oak is fully seasoned and warming you in your stove! :thumbs:

    That is what me Dad would say. I could have stood for a little less heating today. I got the red oak that I hauled stacked; none from the tree that threw a chain at me; part of the day was working on other chores.
