I was only able to load about a 1/4 of my Silverado with wood yesterday. Would have loaded up the whole truck, but my sons was with me and the house I was at has been hives and the boy was freaking about the bees( there was one flying around him.) . Going back as soon as I can to get more and maybe try to stack some at the house. I have limited space at my house. And the best part. Is all of this wood was already cut before I got there. Good thing since I only have a little Poulan 16" saw, lol. There is enough here for like a 4-5 year plan ( as much as I burn).
Of this group, top 2 look like walnut, not sure bout bottom left (red elm?), bottom right needs spun around for bark pic.... Looks like you have a nice hook up tho SG
first ones are ash yes sir, second does look like walnut, orangeish split maybe red elm like Eric said or maybe sass
Here is some side by side shots of the wood in question. Bark with inside. Sorry no leaves. I also added a pick where these came from. The ash tree took these guys out on the way down.
Looks like you have a good start on some good wood. Maybe later you can eventually get a little bigger saw. Keep that chain sharp on your Poulan and it well serve you well. I will guess on the wood since the first two comments look spot on. Welcome.
Never underestimate a saw with a 16" bar. If the motor has enough power you can cut quite a large tree. We've cut trees over 30" diameter with a 16" bar (Stihl 290). Have also used other saws with 16" bars but the Stihl is our present saw.
Very true. I've cut some pretty big stuff with my 021 with a 16" bar that I questioned if the saw could handle it or not. I was very surprised
I could certainly be wrong but I think the other is Bradford pear...and welcome Silentgarth, you're gonna like here, I guarantee it...
That's based on the top pic in post #5-I burned my first last year and was quite impressed, about the same burn and btu's as cherry and burns a beautiful color with blue hues-I have a bit more I'm looking forward to burning
Welcome to the FHC, Silentgarth ! Great crew here! I see you're from Noblesville. I'll be heading out your way in the next few weeks. Staying in Fishers for a couple nights. Not sure of the dates right now though. Maybe a beer or two? I'd be happy to meet a fellow hoarder if you have a chance.
