This doesn't taste like that, though. It's not skunky, it's like it has too much of something or something is in it that shouldn't be in it. It's a spicey, tangy flavor, similar to some craft beers.

I was actually on the Cape in Provincetown! Had my new Subaru legacy sideswiped on Commercial St while I was sleeping. Would you imagine that in that bastion of Liberalocity whomever did it didnt even leave a note?! Harumph!

    That really sucks

And they probably never even knew they hit it eh o_O

Watching the news the other night and some puke up in Portland ran a red light, ran over a teenager and just drove off without even slowing down :hair:

When they catch that sucker he needs to, at the least lose his license forever.

Kid got lucky and only got a few scrapes and bruises outta the ordeal.

Took the big plunge yesterday and plugged the new puter in.

Hit start and went to work setting it up.

Got all done fooling in the bios and then things turned ugly :hair:

Unit would not load the OS, THEN things really got HINKY.

On one try to get the OS to load the screen filled with myriad text that looked like strange alien gibberish.

    Hmmmmm

One line had a reference to the CPU ??????????????

    This was definitely not cool.

Called up a buddy who is a top flight puter geek.

Yacked a bit and both of us came to the conclusion that the CPU was likely toast.

(Used gamer board that most likely been ran waaaaaaaaaaaay too far into the OC ZONE and put away wet waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many times)

ebay package deal with board, CPU and memory.

Sometimes you eat the dragon and other times the dragon eats you :(

Decided to swap out the chip with a known "NEW IN THE BOX GOOD ONE"

A few minutes of fooling with it and it was off to the races.
Kicked it in the butt and things started to rock and roll.

OS loaded right up and all the peripherals work fine.

Spent several hours transferring stuff from my main puter to the new beast.

Still got a ways to go but things seem to be working good.

Ahhhh, I got the thing hanging straight too

Glad you got it done....I build my own also, but never use old parts. I made the jump to SSD drives a while ago, so, I just take them out, slap them into the bus, get the data off of them. I usually also snag up a new SSD for a boot drive and put the new OS on it. Been playing around with 10 for awhile now, got to say I like it.....8 was hideous...actually reverted back to 7 from that!

    Happy BD IHP ..

Haven't been here in a bit and thought I would drop by as summer reaches half way just to say HI :BrianK:

Yepper IHP time goes faster n faster that is why I decided to live slower n slower.

It has been a spectacular summer though the fishing (for me anyway) has been a bit off.

My "modus operandi" for many years is to scare up the "Hot rods " that are maybe 3-4 years old or so that the hot doggers no longer want.

Recently got hold of a NEW OLD STOCK MSI B75A- G43 LGA 1155 ATX

Also scared up an I5 for it

I will buy a few new parts like a graphics card, power supply and wifi card, but the stuff like the MB and CPU are just too spendy for what I need.

So many times a complete package can be had real right.

My current unit has a P5Q PRO TURBO with an intel Q 9770 cpu in it.

Not a screamer by todays standards, but great for what I do.

My new Core P5 case is just sweet, and looks top flight.

Likely in a year or so I will scare up another one of yesterdays hot rods (2015 or 2016 release) and do this again.

The current machine was something I built in Aug 2013 with the P5Q board.

Truth be known, I have really very little use for any of the hot rods.

Now the real truth is that I would love to have one of the baddest azz machines out there, but for what ???

Surfing to FHC and doing emails, ebay and stuff takes very little in the way of a puter.

I do prefer a machine that can deal with the high end graphics that so many sites use any more.

Messed with 10 for a few at a friends house, as he is livid over it and we been discussing the 64 bit Zorin OS9 for his unit.

He is a tad scared to jump off the blows wagon me thinks/????

I am too, Just worried some of the windows programs won't run. But willing to experiment in the future........

Besides the new AMD quad core most of my stuff is old. I have a bunch of older 775 boards and server processors that are quad cores and are still pretty fast. Most of the 775 boards can be scored cheap and so are the processors. There is a chip mod that lets these processors run in the high end 775 boards. The server boards are nuts for price yet the processors are silly cheap $$. I have 2 3.4 gig quads I score for less than $20 each. And 2 EVGA boards that cruise nicely with them(scored 3 boards for less than $150.). One is my sons gamer, The other is my video edit machine and a spare if needed. With DSL, I see little need for the rockets that are on the market. These are faster than the DSL speeds and still score higher than the i3's and some of the low end i5's.

I have a bench PC that has a Biostar board and a 3.2 gig quad that I can play with. I have a bunch of old 80 gig HDD that I can mess with different OS's before I make the leap in the other toys. Should be a good winta project once we hang up the fishing gear and put the boat up. I might be pickin you and bears brain when I get to playin. ;)
