Thinking about trying to beat the heat. It's taking it's toll on me and I'm running nonstop for the next 2.5 months. Buddy of mine has a set of those lights that road crews use to work on the highways. Nothing but hunting camps around the house here so noise isn't an issue with ticking anyone off. Might start running from 11-4 or so. Everyone tells me I'm insane. Guys/gals here have had to do this right?

I do it with a Fiskars and a headlamp as my #1 splitting means past couple of years. Stacking gets a bit iffy, but if I have cribbed ends ready and just doing simple stacking no big deal.

Father of 2 young kids, gotta get my exercise in some how and keep the weekends free for some family time.

Do what you need to do... most try to get done with this chore before the heat comes or wait till after.... but fly your hoarder flag.

    Btw, what part of PA?

Long as you are safe i see no problems with it at all! I don't have the need to right now but if I had to I would.

I have stacked at night many times after I put the kids to bed. I don't split at night because it would keep the kids awake and my neighbors are close. I know Greg is a notorious night splitter.

I've done it, when I've had to. I too hate working in the heat. When I have to, I do it after the sun and the he temps go down, at least a few degrees.;)

We do some night splits, usually they go two to three hours at most. Sometimes I cant sleep and I will look at the clock and tell my self, ok old man, if we are not asleep in 30 minutes we are splitting wood, a lot times that is enough to get me to sleep, and if not, out we go!

I do a wheelbarrow load or three most nights after the after dinner romp in the woods with the hounds.

I stacked last fall until about 11pm on a few nights - just ran a cord from the barn to a portable shop light at the stacks - plenty of light for work. Cheers!

I have stacked at night using the headlights from the truck, and sometimes by moonlight. Never split at night, I'm afraid of how badly I'd injure myself! I'm clumsy enough in the daylight! Been many years though - I'm far enough ahead I can wait until fall if need be now.

the only times I've worked on wood after dark (and that just doesn't sound right) is after the time changes and I'm forced to because of the dark encroaching at 5 pm--doing it by choice when there's still plenty of light just constitutes another degree of obsession...part of our makeup

Yes I have worked on splitting and stacking at night. I have a tripod set with two halogens that lights things up very well. I can't work late at night because I do have a neighbor at least until he does the snow bird thing. A few years ago I even cut up slabs with the chain saw at night by light as I wanted that area to bring in more rounds (limited on space)

My good friend used to do it-he had a halogen light tripod-like working in the daylight.

Chuck Norris prefers Nighttime Felling. He holds a flashlight in one hand and swings a homemade axe with the other. Whatever it takes to beat the heat. Tuff time of year to process wood in my opinion.

Yes, I do remember some times when I'd split and stack in the dark but for sure it was not when the weather was hot! Most times it was from December through January. Happily, those days are in the past.

I'll start splitting at dusk sometimes and go till way after dark. I have no problems seeing the rounds and hitting them in the right spot with the maul until my wife comes out to check on me with her flash light. Once I look at the light I can't see the wood anymore.
