Maybe some of you seen my post about beginning to clean and get my splitter I built ready to go. Well, I never have any luck no matter what! That's why I will never and don't gamble. So today a fella I work with had bought a home in Delaware and has been waiting to sell his home in here in NJ so he found a buyer. So where is this going? He used to burn wood in his work shop and I never knew he had a splitter, so he asked me today if I was interested in a 20 ton Craftsman splitter. I said, well only if the price is right! He said how's $300.00 sound? . So after I checked my shorts I asks him does it work ok? he said it's been outside and covered but it runs fine, He said he put a new engine on it 2 years ago. I said "SOLD", sight unseen. Well I brought it home, fixed some jury rigged stuff, power washed it, and as he stated it fired right up and spilt some oak! After researching the model, it's a 1988-1991 some where in there, The motor is a 2012 from what I've found. At any rate for $300.00 I think I'll get my money out of it.
Great story! That would be exactly my kind of luck too. Hate to ask, but how much did you spend on the build? On the bright side, great score on the splitter!
I got $500+ into the other now, maybe a bit more. I picked up a Honda motor from a power washer, got the I beam for $50.00 and the rest was in the ram and valve assembly. Tank was another $100.00
$300 for that !! ya did great man :stacke: As far as gambling , I found a good way to double my money , fold it in half and put it in my pocket
Wow, nice splitter for sure... I was just thinking I need to post some pics of my ol "family" splitter....this old thing has been an absolute warrior since I was a little feller.... I don't even know how many motors she has wore out.... This splitter just operates in the horizontal position, it doesn't have the mechanism to split vertically.....I will have to ask my dad if he bought it new or used.... I used to use her all the time growing up, when I got my own place she somehow ended up tagging along....I think now that the roles are somewhat reversed my dad has basically given the ol splitter to me...he knows if he EVER needs wood I have plenty at my house, and I told him if he never wants to cut another stick of wood, I will have all he ever needs..... Kind of sad as I re-read this post to myself!!!
Sounds like it was a pretty dang good deal. Have you used it much yet or how much oak did you run through it?
A few pieces just to see, Checked the hydraulic fluid and made sure it was working correctly. It was fine!
I have that same exact splitter! I too replaced the motor, about two years ago. It doesn't get used much now since I bought the Timberwolf. But it's a great backup!
