From the stand my grandfather planted when he was a teenager. There's a lot of beetle kill I need to get out of there. I made this one into some lumber, a little firewood, and a new 2-cord firewood pallet. Happy Birthday USA!
Thanks! They're nothing too special, but they get the job done. Tractor is a JD 318 - my Dad found it for me when I first bought my house. It's his favorite model mower. I don't have a very big yard, and I like to push mow it. So we ended up splitting the cost - he took the mower deck and I took the tractor. The trailer it's towing used to be my grandfather's wood hauler. It's been a pretty stout little trailer. The other trailer was given to me by a neighbor. It didn't have a hitch on it and I wasn't really sure what to do with it for a while. I ended up making a handlebar for it and I use it as a hand truck for moving stuff around the yard.
Wow very impressive. Do you have a walkout basement? My last house did. It's a real bugger getting anything up and down in my new house. That is some really nice
Thanks! No walkout basement - everything's gotta come down a flight of stairs. I have a system to it now; I let gravity do most of the work. Eventually I want a pole barn for my workshop and lumber storage - then I could actually store stuff in the basement or finish it, and be able to park cars in my garage again.
Thanks! They're around 8x8, but I only end up with five 16" rows after allowing a little airspace. So they're a little short. I make the skids out of black locust; and the deck is 1.5" x 10"+ pine. I'm hoping they'll hold up a little longer than the garbage picked pallets I was using before.
Every time I go in back and look at those spruce still laying around I have fond memories of Shawn sawing and a lot of us watching. He did some nice demonstrations while he was here. Of course, we have a couple of planks we're still drying and want to make a nice bench or two also. Good work Shawn.
Thanks Dennis. I really wish I could have stayed another day or two to finish up there. I got some sticker stock out of the leftovers, and finished stacking everything I've milled recently. First garage bay is just about full!
You're soon gonna have to open up shop! Curry's lumber! Very nice, Shawn! Those custom pallets are great, they'll outlast regular pallets for sure!
Shawn Curry , I'm beginning to think there is a bit of yooper in you after seeing that garage! That seems typical around here to use the garage for everything but parking vehicles. Come fall, there is just one more chore added to the list of getting ready for winter....clean out the garage! What kinda wood do you have here? Cedar?
