I have burned a few nights but mostly in the morning. I have enough pellets left in the stove for 1 more startup. I'm not opening another bag.

Yesterday morning I would have turned the stove on, if it wasn't supposed to make it into the 90's in the afternoon. I used extra layer of clothing. Good call as the house went from 62* to 78* thru the day.

Stove been off the past several nights with good burns on Thurs, Fri and Sat in the morning.

Stove off yesterday morning and this morning.

This year we are waaaay farther into June and still fooling with stoves than year in recent memory.

Normally we are done completely by the first week of June.

A few years ago we had a slight "blip" in the weather in mid/late Aug and had a spot fire one morning to knock the chill off.

    Strange year so far.

90 F +++ in early April then cold and rainy.
90 F ++++ in May a few times, then cool and rain.

Last week the higher Mt's got a dusting of Snow.

Myself I hate hot weather, and 60's to low 70's F is just fine.

Also saves on the cost of running the AC

Cost me far and away less to heat the place from Sept to June than to cool it from May to September.

    Ah well, such is life

Here it is the 8th of July and we had a fire this morning in the little Whit.

Never ever had fires in July before around here.

Normal routine is the fires are dropped by the first week of June and not rekindled until late September.

    Not so this year.

58 This morning, I would have a little fire, but my kids upstairs have their windows open. They don't will like the smoke smell drifting in. so the wife has the baseboard heat on. It is so humid that I am sweating even with the cooler temps.

Been nasty hot & humid the past 3 days. 95* and a little less humid (60%) today, but still nasty. Supposed to stay like this for another week or more. :hair:

I think the ocean is giving us our cover. No sun at all here. Looks like the weekend is going to be rain and overcast.

Well, made the call to get the final propane price for winter '16-'17.....once again, price has gone down. Not a lot, but still lower. Locked in at $1.79.

    No fires for a while.

Been chilly enough ALMOST but it warms up nicely after the sun gets up.

So i'm looking at my last post, and we must have burned some days past the 8th this year. Kind of amazing.
This year i decided since i'd be burning again probably by mid september, that i would leave the deep pile of ash in the firebox and try the "ash protects from rust" position i have seen others post about.

    It works.!
I've been running the stove every week or two, just until POF, and not enough to add heat to the house.
Just to keep the flue dry. I have been 100% lazy about doing even the flue so far.

The PS50 has a flat plate exchange, so there are really no nooks and crannies in the usual sense.
During the burning season i had been using my .75 hp blower after cleaning and while the exhaust fan was still running, to blow out the combustion motor chamber. I'd just wrap the nozzle in some flannel to seal the exhaust duct from blowback.
Ash collecting in that chamber is the point needing most attention between seasons, so this step will have helped that.
When i do the flue, i'll open the cleanout tee which is at the stove back, and i'll use the blower and shop vac together to clear that area.

I won't do this every year, but i am fine with it this time.
I'll just snug down the motor on the gasket a little to be sure before i start a new burn season.

It's been a few weeks for me as well. Won't be long though and 99 will be requesting a morning fire for the chill removal at the cottage!
