Wish some of you were closer, I have too much wood here and I hear everybody say you never have too much. I now have 4 guys cutting and leaving me half of what they cut. Guess it's about 7 cord and it was free. My tree guy didn't want to spend 3 day cutting and loading the wood to bring it here he paid $300.00 to a local " Big Time " tree service to drop them off today.

Sometimes it's just like a big s-word sandwich. You just gotta take a bite of your part. (Paraphrasing "Full-Metal Jacket".)
The sacrifices we make to help our friends.

Just got a call, 9:20 at night, seems that the guy driving the Tandem Trailer for the Oak delivery hearing I was cutting the Oak for firewood called a friend in Catskill NY about a 45 minute drive from me on the Thruway. This guy offered me $700.00 for the logs after asking me if I was interested in selling them. When I answered yes he asked if he could come by in the afternoon and pick them up and he would pay me in cash site unseen as he knew the word of the log truck driver would be right on. Seems the driver grew up in Catskill and knows the guy who runs the mill there.

Well it seems nice right now but no deal is complete till money is exchanged. Talk is cheap and the more talk there is the cheaper it is !

No luck, my Tree guy doesn't pay rent and if he did it would be around $500.00 a month so to feed my addiction to Firewood he parks for nothing and drops off all the wood he cuts and chips that I used to make compost that I sell. I sell quite a bit wood some split and most as is by the pick up truck load. Also I have a deal with 4 guys 2 from FHC that they cut and leave half of what they cut for me to split. It's amazing how without ever advertising people find me for firewood and wood they can cut and split themselves..

No but this just happen to work out for me. I need to make $6,00.00 a year for the parking of his equipment and trucks and that's tough to do. This year he is taking down 10 trees that are hanging over a 100 foot garage rental I have here to help defray the cost of his parking and storage here.

That is a thing of beauty. You will NOT find oak like that here, as in straight and long. Our oak trees go up 10-12' then explode in all different directions. They still make good wood but can be a beast to process.

Guy showed from the Mill in Catskill offered me $450.00, said it was a long trip and he thought there was more wood. This guy couldn't have been more then 25 years old, maybe he was going to be the big buyer for his families Mill. Guess I've been in business too long, heard it all. I am becoming obnoxious as I told him nobody told him to come up and that I would burn the Oak before I sold it for that price. Then give me your lowest price he said. $700.00 and if you wait five more minutes the price is $750.00 was my response as I turned and walked back to my splitter where I was replacing guides for the push block. Needless to say it didn't go well for either of us as he drove away and I got no cash. Oh well another day but not another dollar. Made a phone call to the Tree company that delivered the wood here yesterday and found out he was picking up a half load of Oak from him today as well.

Well Chopy, at least it was a good story. Sometimes this is how it goes but at least, you still have some great oak and if you need dollars perhaps you can sell to a local mill, if there are any left in that area.

Yep! Run an add on CL if you have the time. Call a few local mills maybe. It ain't going to hurt anything sitting for a bit, unless you need it moved. I would stick firm on the price if yoir market will support it. It will sell sooner or later!!

Don't need to move it as I have the room. The closest mill is about a 45 minute drive and right now I have a bad taste in my mouth as far as mills are concerned. I will wait till I have no other wood to process before I even think about cutting these. As for an ad on craigslist I don't need the money right now and don't want to deal with all the tire kickers. My tree guy is brining 3 more trees in the next week and with this heat we are having it doesn't look like any wood is going to be processed. I figured it out this morning counting the Oaks that came in I have about 23 cord on the ground waiting to be cut, sold or turned into firewood.

Did he actually pull out a grading stick and tape or was he just winging it? I'll bet you that he actually is an aggregater and that if you consummated the deal those logs would have eventually been put on a flatbed and sent to Quebec.

But all is good now, those logs are going to make for some mighty fine splits. You are going to be able to bust out some perfect 6x4s. I loved it when one of my sources was giving me logs like that.
