I found out yesterday that I only have just over a month to get my spring wood splitting done along with garden planting before going under the knife. I have surgery planned on both hands for carpal tunnel relief. That will limit my working with wood for a couple of months. At least it will be over the hottest part of the summer so that is one good thing.
Better get busy! Sorry u have the surgery coming up, but I guess if ya need it, ya need it. Ever hold an axe with your bare toes? LOL. Kidding. Take care and "Git 'er done!"
Both at the same time? I've known people who've had it done with different rates of success. One woman had to have it redone........ My wife had it done on one hand with good result. I should have had both done, but since I retired, a lot of the issues have subsided. Not gone though. I still have fingers that go numb if I hold a fork too long. I just eat faster. I used to drop coffee cups and not realize it until they hit the floor. Good luck with the surgery and getting firewood done.
Going to have two surgeries, two weeks apart. Supposed to take 6 weeks for complete healing so this way I will only be on the sideline for 8 weeks total. At least that is the plan. It is nice to be close to being on the 3 year plan for firewood to allow for glitches like this. Thanks all for the good wishes.
Good luck with your surgeries. I've had both hands done myself and it's one of the best things I've done...(along with 7 other surgical repairs). Once my hands healed, I've never had another problem - I got my hands back. Heal time was fairly quick.
Good luck on the surgeries. We dont have to be on the three year plan here because of the kind of wood we burn and how dry it often is when harvested but we sure do for the reason that if you get sick, injured or hurt you may not be able to put up wood for awhile. Glad to hear you are ahead!
That is something I never got into. Don't play golf either. I was also told I can't play with chainsaws until I heal up. Now that is a real bummer
Don't think I would need that. I only buy one 6-pack a year, and that is when my son comes down to help me with firewood on a weekend. I am not a big beer drinker. Half a beer on a hot day is just right for me.
Good. I feared you were having both done on the same date. That could turn out badly. But 2 weeks apart should be okay and we wish you luck with this. Hopefully you will regain full used of both hands and then you may even get on a 5 year plan! Good luck to you Erik B
Sean I'm happy you brought up this thought on the 3 year plan. For many, that is one of the top motivators. For sure it is me as I'm into my 70's and have too many physical problems to risk not being ahead on the firewood.
Don't forget you can always buy some firewood already cut and split. And give a job for someone else. Have it delivered and just enjoy stacking it. Several years ago I use to do this for part of my supply and really enjoyed it. Good luck with your surgery and recovery. Very best to ya!
I have enough acres of woods of my own and it seems to give me more than I can use. At this time it doesn't make sense to buy wood. I have a feeling when I can no longer harvest my own wood, I will be ready to move into a condo or something like that.
