I have done only 1 deep cleaning this year, but hit the firebox with an old paint brush every few weeks. Takes 30 seconds and I put the stove into test mode to keep the exhaust fan running to keep the ash from drifting into the room as I brush it.

oops, this is now a beer thread........enjoy my friends

Noticed a lazy flame the other day and thought it must be the MWP pellets I started using a couple of weeks ago. Having been lazy about cleaning, I shut the stove down and checked under the burn pot. Chock full of ash to the point where some of the holes were plugged. Cleaned it all out with my fingers and by rapping the pot with a small pry bar, cleaned up the ash fallout, fired her back up and lo and behold, a nice crisp flame.

Yeah, but the holes can be clean, but if that igniter chamber is getting full, it can cause problems - especially if not running pretty decent pellets. After running 10 days of Thermaglo's the P61 started overfilling the pot on start up. Changed to Cubex, and the issue went away even though I did nothing else. That next weekend shut down and cleaned out the igniter area (very full even though I had just cleaned it 2 weeks before) and emptied the almost full ash pan (which also had been emptied 2 weeks prior :hair:) and started using TG's again and everything was fine.
