This years going to be a little easier to gather wood. Bought a newer truck, albeit smaller, it's still very capable. Also finished building a trailer to really make my life easier. So tired of climbing in and out of the bed of a truck! 2014 Taco 4x4 manual trans. 4x8 utility trailer I had the frame but had to buy about $100 worth of wood for. All pressure treated. Removable stakes so I can flat haul sheet wood and I have a custom tarp in mind so I can haul a little bit of dirt later. I do plan on upgrading the axle to a 3500# with brakes in the future. For now though, it will handle a face cord at a time.
Anyone else changing things around this season? I'm working 70-80 hours a week so it's going to be hard to find time to cut, but I'll get it done! Really hope to purchase a 22-ton log splitter this season.
Yeah Joe I am changing things up. Sold my old hauler that I couldn't keep up with. Downsizing to my Subaru and little trailer, very similar to yours. Should pull about 1/3 cord, same as you. That little Taco is a nice looking rig.
Fine choice of truck there, but I might be biased! I too am looking for things to make life easier. A simple hookaroon has made a difference already.
A cant hook and log stand is my next purchase when I go to get a new bar next month. ANYTHING I can do to make this easier is gonna happen this year with the bump in salary.
You can easily haul a half cord in the 4 x 8 trailer. Or more...even green unseasoned heavy high btu stuff. Don't mind the mule, just load the wagon! Doooooo eeeeettt! Nice taco!
Joe what kind of pine is that above your nice new trucks hood in the first picture? The way the needles are bunched together they look like what I would call a Ponderosa Pine found just south of us an hour, but the bark doesnt have the red furrowed look Im used to. Sweet looking new ride, watch you dont scratch it
Nice set up, good-looking truck and trailer. I haul a half of a cord in my 5x10 all the time sometimes more than that
Joe, the cant hook is a great idea but I have no use for the log stands. They end up making more work for you (hard work too) and are generally a pain in the... I had one once and it took me many, many years before I could finally find someone who would take it off my hands. A useless tool it proved to be for me. Better to use just the cant hook. Cut the log at least 3/4 the way through in many places. You'll almost always find somewhere in that log where you can cut all the way through (probably by using an undercut to finish it) and then use the cant hook. Roll the log and finish the cuts.
I was thinking about this today and I'll have to say I agree. Why bother if I can roll it over and undercut the rest of the way? Less work now that you mention it... Less work is ALWAYS better!!!
