Rain off and on next couple days then 20-30 degrees at night and 40-50 degrees during the days for next couple weeks. Still winter here in the mountains of Pa. We had some record highs last week and everyone thought winter left early... nope...not that lucky
Im likely to be burning into June a bit but I enjoy reading threads like this bert the turtle as I find it interesting to hear when people shut er down. Once solar loading takes over it really doesnt make sense does it? In the Rockies we have such cool over nights that shoulder season burning lasts a long time. For those who are gardeners we are a 3.5-4 grow zone.
Just lit off the basement stove. Highs are in the low 30's today with (depending which forecast you believe) 15" of snow expected. Winds of 30 mph will accompany the snow just to make it interesting. No, no last fire here! It'll be a couple months yet......
Gonna be a while still before last fire. We burnt much less than a normal year. But it is still winter, and around here early spring is just the same as late winter.
I can't recall when we shut down last year. It will get to a point where it almost doesn't make sense to make a fire, solar gains as mentioned above by Sean. Easier to let the furnace run for 10 minutes in the morning, and only make a fire at night when it hits that point. But we're not there yet. Two weeks of below freezing daytime, 14 F night time temps forecast ahead.
Haven't burned in a couple of days but it ain't over yet. May burn all next week. I don't look for my last fire untill about the first of May.
Not in the mountains but we have the same weather coming in for the weekend. It was nice having that week of 60's and 70's but I knew it wouldn't last. I usually burn off and on through April.
NC Its toasty even for here this time of year. Down to a nice even 72 now. Highs supposed to be in the 50s this weekend; house should coast on thermal mass just fine. We'll see how the next week goes.
Cold weather forecasted for Saturday and especially Sunday. Chance of a little snow even on Sunday. Usually have fires into late April here, occasionally into May. I'd say we've reached the end of round the clock fires but are far from the last far.
Got a little fire going today. OAT was around 30* with highs around 45* forecast. Temps for the next week show highs in the 40's so I will continue to have small fires in the mornings. Glad I have lots of kindling.
Wind the last couple days have kept it chilly here. Today we've had rain/snow showers along with wind. Not quite as strong of wind as yesterday but still windy. Rather than cutting wood, I cut raspberry bushes today. Got them all pruned and now comes the cleanup. Hopefully, the Mrs will do that part so I don't have to bend that much. I'm wondering how much snow fell yesterday in MN, WI and the UP of MI.
u mm it's spitting snow now.... so ah NO... Last year last fire was June 3, 52 and raining so fire got lit... still got a third of a cord on wife's wine and sunset deck (it's only my wood deck in winter) will keep a pile size of a gas grill there all summer til September and it will get used October first..
Yes it does. I love gardening so take it on as a challenge. We cant grow tomatoes because of the cold nights and things like pumpkins, squash are all no goes. We can grow lots of things though. My garlic has been up for awhile now! Ive even see it growing up through snow and ice.
