I was taking a break at work today and did the Youtube thing for AR SBR's. Happened to check out a few comment sections and WOW!, didn't realize the two camps were so adamant about their views .
I currently own both variants. I like both styles. Depending on a certain scenario, I may choose one over the other, but I'm not married to a particular platform.
    So who likes what?

Me either. I worry about AK's southern neighbor. ;)

AK's and their variants are prohibited up here, so I'm going to say AR for me.

I'm an ar guy, but balistacally speaking, I see the benefit of the x39 round.
I have yet to shoot a 300bo which is supposed to rival x39 ballistics in an ar.

I've got an upper sitting here waiting on a barrel for a 300 or 9mm build. I guess that's why I like the ar....interchangeable platform.

I wish I had bought an AK when I was back in college and you could pick them up for $250. I'd like to own one, but more as just something to learn about how it works. I do have an AR, but that's just because it's the current military arm so parts, ammo, and magazines are standardized and readily available in case SHTF.

But really, I'm not a huge fan of the AR platform either. Really I'd love to have the money to buy a FN SCAR, or hopefully CZ brings their 805 Bren carbine to the USA at a better price than the SCAR.

Never owned an AK, but had an SKS for 20 plus years. It was rock solid and would shoot anything. The old AR vs AK debate has always been AK for reliability AR for better accuracy. Also the 7.62x39 is a hard hitter. Back in the early 90's it was cheap and plentiful.

The AR is so versatile and soft shooting with almost endless configuration. I resisted getting on the AR bandwagon for years. Now I'm hooked, and there is no turning back.

I like AKs and am an AK guy.

As for those that want to learn. Watch a youtube video. I think there as many parts in the AR bolt group as the whole AK! Ha

Truth be told, I'm more in GrJfer's camp with the SKS. Stupid simple, shoots anything and very decent accuracy to boot. Just lacks capacity and "sexiness".
The AK is simple and functional, but heavy compared to an AR. Accuracy with the pinned barrels vs. threaded is lacking.
The AR has more parts, thus more things to potentially go wrong though they rarely do. I love the easy adaptability between the lower and various uppers.
Ar's can be built pretty light, so that's a plus. Ergonomics of both are fine for me.
Like I said, I'm not married to either. But I like them both.

Simplicity and reliability. That was my reason for going with the AK platform. Accuracy at long distance? Yeah, not so much.

A couple years ago, just out of curiosity, I loaded a 30rd mag and emptied it as fast as I could on a 15" target at 100yds. I had 1 hole in the target. :emb: Taking your time between shots gets you a much better group but accuracy is definitely lacking once you get over 60-70yds. But when it comes time to clean it up, it doesn't get much easier. I haven't had it out for awhile so I'm not entirely sure, but I believe there are 7 parts to it. Takes less than a minute to break it down.

Never had or used an AR so I can't comment on them.

    7 sounds about right.

There is the top cover. The bolt carrier and group then pulls out. You can take the bolt out of the carrier/gas piston. There is the removable front gas chamber tube. Trigger can come out. It's spring is literally a braided piece of heavy bent wire. That's all you strip for cleaning and I don't take the trigger out. So that's what...6 pieces counting the gun carcas. 7 if you count the magazine.

I have only shot dirty Russian steel case ammo in mine. But it can shoot dirty no problem.

I slowly am hoarding bass cases when I find them. One day if I collect enough I will buy dies for them to reload.
