Came up a back road just a mile or two from my house on Tuesday and saw the tree company stacking wood right on the road edge. The cutting was in a wet area and it looked like oak, hickory and elm. There was at least 1.5 cords already stacked with more on the way. I don't take off the road without asking permission and was unable to find a contact to get the permission. After thinking about it, I don't think I could have done much with it any way. Broken rib on the right side from 2 weeks ago and newly injured ribs on the left side as of yesterday morning. Been a rough couple weeks. Just don't think I could have lifted logs in that condition. It's all gone already anyhow. I do need to get a handle on my wood hoard. I am down to just over 2 years. Scary.
Yeah, you're not in proper health to take advantage of that. Timing is everything, and sometimes the timing just isn't right.
Sounds like you've been a little rough on yourself lately! Busted up ribs take a while to heal and the more you push it the longer it takes.............take it easy for a while and enjoy the wood you have worked to store up. Good luck !
Remind me how you broke both sides of ribs? I did something to mine a couple years ago, leaning too hard on the plastic babygate surrounding the stove and it finally caved where I had leaned/braced my knees against too many times to load the old smoke dragon. I can still feel those ribs till this day during a cough or sneeze.
Right side was due to leaning across the seatback of the Kubota to operate the backhoe. Got stuck plowing the 27 inches of snow, and used the backhoe to crawl out of the position. When I stretched out and grabbed the hoe controls, the tractor jumped a bit as the hoe moved. I heard it snap over the engine noise. Felt my body drop a tiny bit at the same time. Finished plowing as it only bother me when I moved. It is high, just under the armpit and hurt mostly around the front toward the sternum. Left side got it as I stood on the back bumper of the truck (capped with tools in the bed) and leaned into the bed to find something. I was conscious of the injured right rib and used my right hand to hold a toolbox ensuring that if I fell I would not hit that side. Again a lean and stretch for a piece and both feet slipped off the bumper. Landed on a tool bag with a metal carry handle. Hit the bottom of the rib cage on that handle. Hurt twice as bad as the seatback thing. Thought I could feel internal bleeding but never coughed up any blood. The sensation of gas pressure was something that I felt for the rest of the afternoon, and I didn't have Taco Bell for lunch. That one has kept me from sleeping well since it happened. Thinking about hitting my thumb with a hammer today just to get the third incident out of the way. This crap happens in threes.
Dang man, take it easy on them ribs! That's a pain like no other. Don't worry about the wood. There will be more
I'm with Stinny on this! I'm still trying to take it easy after hernia surgery, since I didn't listen about a month in and fell directly on the double incision area Rest up mywaynow
That's the worse!! I either broke or fractured my ribs several years ago (riding a dirt bike up steep hills in the snow/ice just isn't a good idea). Then I developed a bad cough, and I remember a particularly bad coughing fit a couple weeks later feeling and hearing a loud "CRACK" in my ribs and the pain went back up to 100% again for another week.
And here I was going to tell you to take some time off of the "MMA" circuit! But typical guy, no? Walking wounded and still thinking about what you can do or should have done workwise. Ya gotta heal up, man. The wood will be there (just not stacked up beside the road). Had some bruised/cracked (but not broken like you) ribs from when I used to compete and it isn't fun at all. Watch out for those sneezes!
You really notice how much you cough or sneeze when you have damaged ribs dont you. Been there done that...........not nice. Get well friend ...slow wins the race when things are broken. bob
That may be a little harsh, but you do need to take it easy. Cracked ribs are nothing to take lightly. Getting a cold and coughing with cracked ribs is a pain that is so terrible, as the guys said. Take it easy mywaynow
My elderly father slipped on ice and fell in the carwash bay, broke SEVERAL ribs. For YEARS every tiny cough or sneeze, he would put his fingers on his sternum and pop them back in, always with a painful grimacing face!! I agree with you not to be taken it lightly
