Most of the BTU charts agree but I've always felt like Red Oak makes more heat. All my friends think so too. Maybe its a regional thing and maybe that's why some charts show Red Oak higher than White. I've wondered about this.....
Yeah I am not too familiar with oak, only oak I ever got was when a large branch came down from a yard tree. When I used to cut on the farm the woods was full of oak, but I never really came across any that were down. Those trees seem to live forever. Lots of cherry down, and standing dead black locust mainly. Those two were 90% of what I cut. Now I am just scrounging what I can from craigslist or buying ecobricks.
Ummm... no! I owned a PH for several years and currently have both a Keystone and a BK Ashford. They are all good stoves in my experience (though I think Woodstock could have done a better job with the PH) but the Woodstocks just don't compare with the BK in terms of burn times with usable heat output and the consistency of the stove temperature of the duration of that burn time. The BK, for those of you who haven't had the chance to run them, is just in a different league. More of a heating appliance than a wood stove. I've been running the Ashford for a couple of years 24/7 and am just amazed at what it can do. It's hard to believe that someone hasn't simply copied their engineering/design.
