I stumbled across a picture and brought back a lot of good memories. He was the best pooch that we ever had. We haven't been able to take the leap to get another since he left us almost 5 years ago. Any of you have pics of your pets of the past? This is a pic of our Ozzy. He was a German Rottweiler and the biggest baby. The last time we went for a check up he was weighed on the calf scale and topped out at 212 pounds. It didn't stop him from thinking he was a lap dog. RIP Ozzy, we miss you!

Greenstick he sure looks like a big baby to me. I miss my girl a rotti named dutchess or kids calling her dutch dawg. I still miss her, photos are in print. a great big baby... often kids took mattresses off beds and put on floor so she would sleep with them.. I won't say she wasn't aggressive.. no one allowed closer to kids than me, mail man, ups man.. no one.. but at same time 2 year old always shoving finger in her eye ears.. you know game you play with kids he played it with dog. always wanted to be on couch or in lap all 135 of her

Facebook has this new thing where all the sudden pictures pop up from the past. The other day a picture of my previous dog came up and it made me sad as all hell.

Our last huskie Tekayo... we lost her on June 29, 2009. I remember going to look at her on a whim... we had an older huskie Meesha... and I didn't know what I was getting into. Tek was 3 months old... I showed up at this old run down place and asked if they still had the husky. Guy took me inside the house and into the living room. Didn't see any dog anywhere. He looks over toward the woodstove and rips her out from under it, tail between her legs, shaking badly... says here she is. She was beautiful... he says nobody wanted this one... she's the last in the litter. I just asked him one more question. Who do I make the check out to. I thought my honey was gonna kill me when she got home that evening... :picard:... took her a few days to get used to having 2 huskies... and fell in love with her. We miss Tek.

This picture was taken @ Xmas 2004 of my boy "HOBBS". We had to put him down 2 weeks after this picture was taken. He was a rescue and was with us for 10 years. He was a extremely smart GSP but unfortunately someone had done a number on him trying to train him to hunt and he was 110% gun shy with ANY loud noise. He turned out to be and wonderful fella who just loved to be loved. Still miss him. I don't think he had a mean bone in his body, at least I NEVER seen him show any type
    of negative personality.

I was just thinking of my dog from the 70's 80's. Funny you should start this thread.

It's almost 9 years since 99 and I had a dog. Kinda used to it now-just pick up and go with out planning for the pet, you know?

All these lost family members.... Can't bare to think of the ones I've lost. Pictures apparently didn't survive multiple moves. My heart is heavy for y'all that still miss your beloved buddies- shows what kind of folks ya's are.
    Dang it, another Kleenex moment.....dang.:tears:
All right, give me a minute.

I miss my dog but don't want another. I know once you get a dream dog Lassie type, they can't be replaced. My decision has been further reinforced by watching an acquaintance get a replacement dog that is high strung and not like their previous dogs or dream dog.

My "Lassie" was also a sick dog so I took care of her for about 12 years. It was exhausting and I'm just not up to doing that again.

The dog pictured above was my first boxer. I was going to wait a little longer to get my second dog but I fell into an opportunity to get another and I did. At first I found myself comparing her to Roxy but realized that was stupid. She's the same breed and therefore share some of the same traits but she's a totally different dog. I came to enjoy the different personality that Macey has when I stopped comparing them. I will admit there is a special place in your heart that your first dog will hold onto, and that can't be replaced but it doesn't mean you can't love another one.

Lost my Kodi (male Rottie) back in 2005. He was 12, and cancer got him. I sure miss him. I write this with tears on my key board. I laid in the floor with his head in my lap as he took his last breath. I'll always remember him and how loved to play ball.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I believe we may have the same situation developing here with Bear. I dread what is coming..............You have my deepest sympathy, it is a deep and painful loss for sure.

We lost our Ozzy to a stroke. He was 2 months shy of 10. It was a week of heavy hearts and a few tears. We tried clot busters and blood thinners but he kept having more small strokes. His side was paralyzed and losing bodily functions and we could tell he felt so bad about it. It would have been pure selfishness not to do something to ease his suffering. No it wasn't easy but I will treasure the good times we had.:tears:

I was a mess when we had to put our first husky to sleep. I couldn't even be in the room with her. Thankfully the staff was awesome and kept her totally calm when it was time. I felt guilty for months that I hadn't gone in. When it was Tek's time, I went in with her and held her while she slipped away. The whole experience is gut wrenching, but I felt better about it all, over the months that followed.

I don't have any pictures of my first lab that I lost to getting hit by a car. It was horrible as my wife watched it happen. It was tough to even get another one but we did. She will be 9 in May and it's starting to get to me finally that she is getting old. She still acts like a puppy and is full of pizz and vinegar but I will miss her when the time comes that she leaves me. Here is a picture from the other weekend we were enjoying some relaxing. image.jpeg

Here is another from this last December after hunting. She was still ready to go even at almost 9 years old

The dog in my avatar is the last one I have had and she lived to be 15 yrs. old and was the love of my life, she passed in 2004 just before new years. I miss her still but am going to be selfish now and not get another.
