Didn't work long but it all has to be done sometime. Dead ash. The weird part of this is one you can't see in the pictures. (By the way, my camera batteries died so could not take more.) To the left of the atv stood another dead ash. While taking a break I just turned and looked at the tree to see where it would fall should I decide to drop it. Oh my! It was almost ready to fall and it would have went right across the seat. I could see at the bottom of the tree it was dead and ready to break off the root and as the wind blew, the tree really rocked. Okay, break time is ended right away! I backed the atv out and dropped the tree. All this time I was thinking about what might have happened if that tree would have fell while I was working on those other trees. Not a pleasant thought at all. Even more so realizing my wife had talked of coming back with me. No, not a pleasant thought. The tree was not huge but big enough to do some big time damage to a body and I did not want to find out just how much damage might occur. Be careful out there is something one reads a lot. Yes, be careful out there. fwiw, when I got that tree down and cut into 8' logs, that was the end of my cutting yesterday. I planned on hauling out logs today but it wasn't to be. Besides, we got snow this morning and everything would be covered. At least I'll use that as an excuse. lol
Nice work Sav, eating cookies is much safer. Our cookie inventory is zero, should we work on a 3 year cookie plan too?
Is that Ash wood still solid? I have cut some White Ash that were dying, but not quite dead, and the wood was already getting punky.
This is a good reminder - I spend a lot of time looking over the tree I'm getting ready to cut but not so much looking at other trees in the area. And this is also a reason why I want no one else around when I'm felling a tree. Glad you got some work done safely!
Old cookies don't taste good. Aged trees burn great though.... Nice work sav! Even a little work adds up.
In the picture, you can see where the one broke off. That part left standing is rotten and just a short section of the tree that is on the ground. All the other wood that you see on the ground is all solid. Actually we've run into very little bad ash so far but have some.
