Ugh! Rear center line rules me out for a future upgrade. :( Not too upset, but it kills a bit of the excitement from following the new stove.

    Rear Flue Height (Center):
    28.25”
    Reduced Height Version:
Subtract 2” from overall height and flue height

it's going to make a nice smaller hybrid and i'm glad they include the specs on the tall version which a lot of buyers evidently have expressed interest in. the tall guy grabs me and is reminiscent of the jotul and other scandanavian designs. it's old school, very old school.
i'm not sure they are building anything that is superior to the IS. it's designed to be cleaner and beat the 1.0 gram per hour of schmutz. that's bragging rights right there but not a compelling reason to buy one over the IS, you would have the prospect of being cleaner by half an ounce per day. the design is a little more 'country journal' than the IS so they will attract that type of buyer where aesthetics are a paramount concern. in my house, not so much, i had a jotul which was gorgeous where the IS is ruggedly handsome which is good enough. it might take them a number of years to make a functionally superior hybrid to the point where you could say it's using less sticks per day, or holding a fire longer. i believe they will eventually come up with such a design. every time you figure wood burning stoves can't be improved much for efficiency, they get improved. maybe they can't get much better from their ~80% level. they can still make a stove that will give a 24 hour burn and compare favorably with a coal unit.

Way too big for my hearth. That's OK, I'm pretty satisfied with my Keystone's performance.

I can't wait to put my eyes on this thing... and hear some first hand tales about how long it burns...

No, it was not designed to compete with the IS.

Yeah, I saw that too. Top of pipe with the short legs would still be higher than my lentil by 1/2 or 3/4". But if you look at the 'stove-in-the-lab' pic in this link, it looks like there's a lot more than 2" between the ash pan housing and the floor. If I like what I read in the beta tests, I'll have them chop the legs at the plant to the specs I need. :axe:BTW, when will the beta stoves go out...after EPA certification?

Spoke with Lorin yesterday; she has one of the betas, don't know about the others and have not read any early returns.

Size and spec wise it will fit in my house. From an operational point of view I know what to expect because of my Progress. The quality of the company is not in question either. I am waiting to see how it looks and what options are available for customization.

It's hard to let go of a stove that is reliable and works so darn well.
