That's usually more of a wood or coal furnace (in the basement) thing, but no reason it wouldn't work on a stove. Any reason you wouldn't just use a manual damper? Baros cool the flue and can cause creosote issues unless you are burning really dry wood...and then even...
After all the great advice I disabled the baro damper. Because the stove had hot coals in it I couldn't remove the T portion of the baro damper so I removed the flapper part and capped it. What a difference it made in my stack temp, came up so much faster allowing me to shut the stove down sooner. Thank YOU all.
I have a baro on my wood furnace, but don't like the creosote it helps to create, so I try not to use it unless the draft is not controllable with the key damper or real erratic due to wind. It is ready to go at a moments notice, but generally I keep it covered with HD aluminum foil, seems to work out pretty well
I have an indoor wood furnace with a 40ft tall 8 inch diameter triple wall chimney. When I first fire it up, I will slide it over which holds it closed. After about 10-20 minutes I allow it to operate, but it is set such that it barely moves unless the wind is howling. I do not mind the slight leak by since the temps stay relatively hot and the air velocity decrease allows a better exchange in the stove. Slight balance act to ensure efficient combustion, efficient heat exchange, and maintain proper flue temps.
I experimented with one do to really strong draft especially on windy days, but I didn't like the room air being sucked up the stack, noticed more buildup of soot in the single wall than I liked. It was pretty fun to set the stack with my manometer and watch it stay rock steady. We went back to keeping a turn key damper in the stack and changing chimney caps. We are totally satisfied with the stove air control and the turn key as a backup.
I use one on my wood/coal furnace as it helps keep my draft in check. Without it my draft is 3 times as much as the manufacture recommends. I mainly burn coal so I am not worried about creosote.
