So I got my finger caught between the wedge and a big locust round the other day. Was rollin the round over to the splitter and got my finger stuck. Scraped it up pretty good even through my gloves but didn't break it. Didn't think it was that bad, then tonight when plowing the driveway that thing was so cold it felt like it was going to fall off. The rest f my fingers were fine but that one was brutal. Noticed that before but not that bad, man that thing hurt, then as soon as I warmed it up by the stove it was fine.
Broke my toe summer before last by dropping a big Hickory round on it. Never went to the Dr.. Still hurts to this day when it's super cold. Everyone told me there was nothing the Doc could do, but I think the break was pretty significant and never healed right. I needed to have it re-set. Hope your finger is o.k. Swags. Injuries suck!
I've had numerous knee surgeries. I love running in cold weather. It sounds crazy but if I wear shorts its like I'm icing down my knees while I run. Cold numbs the pain for me.
Seems when it's cold & you hurt your fingers it Don't hurt right away. Have had minor frost bite on finger tips, now they let me know when they get cold.
It is really a killer when arthritis sets into a joint like that after a injury.. Have the same thing and can understand how you feel. Had the same problem with my left knee. Got to the point that is was debilitating and had to have a TJR. No pain in that knee now.
Keeping active is the only defense Better health thru chemistry for us older farts. Ibuprofen is my friend
Mid January 2006 early one morning I crushed my left middle finger working at a 9 story parking ramp when a stack of heavy scaffold shoring shifted as I was moving some.Temps around 20 degrees with strong winds & light snow.Wearing my usual heavy pile lined leather gloves,it hurt pretty good, figure I'd lose the nail in 4-6 weeks while new one grew in underneath,no big deal. Told my Supervisor immediately & he told me "If you want to go to Doctor,I'll take you right now.I have a high pain tolerance so I said I'll see how it is later on.The cold helped to numb things quite a bit.Worked all day, didnt get much worse. Hurt all night though, all up through my shoulder the pain was throbbing, probably didn't sleep 3 hrs total..Told Supervisor first thing next day, & he replied "OK now you're going for sure".Had finger xrayed - turns out it was broken in 3 places from the first joint to the fingertip,I really crushed it good apparently...Put it in a splint & restricted to light duty - no climbing ladders/scaffolding since that takes 2 hands, but could lift/carry whatever I wanted within reason if I could just use 1 hand or my shoulder etc.Good thing I was right handed since that didn't restrict me too much - could lift/carry most things under 25-30 pounds with ease. And partial/full sheets of plywood or aluminum purlins were easy since I could lean into them & roll them up on right shoulder & just walk away. Went in for follow up 3 days later - by then it had swelled in the splint, there was some purple streaks running up my hand (blood poisoning apparently) so they rushed me to outpatient surgery (this was 4PM on a Friday afternoon, barely got there before office closed). Some bone chips had severed a tendon,so no feeling in fingertip (its pretty much numb to this day).Doc said it was the worst he'd seen, that wasn't actually severed. Hurt like Hell once that anesthesia wore off later that evening...I was kinda groggy but watched the surgeon do the work. Not too pleasant That was my first (hopefully my last) broken bone.At 42 it sure took a long time to heal compared to someone younger,it hurts more as I get older now too.It was almost July before things felt almost "normal" once again. Still kinda crooked,I can sure tell when a cold front or storm is moving in,Doctor told me "You have that to look forward to as I age, especially with your occupation. When I told him that "I also cut firewood/do occasional tree work part time" he just shook his head in disbelief...
